Prices on the way down?

For me, which is the better car, I believe the GS is, but we are a small minority and I recon the masses will vote with their wallets.
That's key to where prices go. It only takes a minority, long term.

I dont have a crystal ball and dont really care too much where prices go, but in the Porsche world you can buy a 997 for less than a 993 today and I think there'll be a similar situation with the GS/GT. I wouldnt be so bold as to say the GS and GT will have as many followers as the 911, but I do think that a good GS will hold its value relative to an early GT.

There will come a point when early GTs are cheaper than good GSs, but I still think thats a few years away.

Like the Lotus Elise I sold last year, my immaculate late S1 111s was worth more than an early S2 variant.

We're there now. A few GT's have been sold retail privately at £37k, Meridien sold a 5000 mile blue GS for £39,995 last week. There are plenty of buyers out there for good Gransports.

Woodys porsche analogy is where i agree...
A good GS will be worth more than a 4.2 GT in 5 years time....

Back to my first post, its clear that the stock of average 3200/4200/GSs are dropping, but you will pay a premium for any high end car, with low miles and good history more than one that's been well used.

Sadly my thoughts are that time has not been kind to Maserati's of old, even the best classics are peanuts compared to similar cars of the same era.

Yes an exceptional 3200/AC/4200/GS will hold value which will exceed their replacement and even the 2nd replacement, but it will be a long while before they start to go up in value and this will not be helped by Gov policy to drive petrol back into the ground!

So as started I note that where one leads others will follow, and only the best will hold value at dealers...my old car has been for sale for almost a year and dropped to what I sold it for, I expect this car is worth £10k only and at that prioce even I may buy it back!

I wouldn't Pete.......A well used serviced one with good history and priced well is the car I would go for.......Low miles is not something that has appealed to me as I would prefer the car to be used as intended...You take the yellow GS at Meridien.....5k on the clock only been serviced once in its life and up for 37995.....No matter how much I love yellow it just ain't worth it....Give me a 50k miles car with great history and well looked after for 25/27k any day.....

Andy you make a very good point.

If one was to buy the £37k 5k miler you would worry about the mikes every time you drove it.

I suspect it's like anything else... Supply and demand. As long as there are more GTs for sale all the time then their price will fall faster as the punters have a better negotiating position. I think that will work in favor for the GS over time. If I had to back something for going up it would be the GS Spyder as there just aren't that many around. I don't know what the price difference was when new but my guess is it's bigger today.

I agree Dem. Just look at PH to see what's for sale. Example being 109 GT v 11 GS and no GS Spyders. I better give Dicky a job to find me one!
