potentiometer problem?

hello everyone,

i have a problem with my recently purchased 2001 3200 automatic:

Basically i had the big service done as soon as i bought the car, everything was done, and as soon as i got the car back it started to have what looked like a problem with the throttle potentiometer.

i seemed to be able to fix it myself at first by resetting the throttle a couple of times, but it became such a nuisance that i took the car back to the garage.
the SD2 pointed to a potentiometer fault, but the garage told me that it should be fine now that they cleared the error.

the car then was fine and worked well for an entire 2 weeks!

then, yesterday, i went for a longer drive of almost 2 hours thru London, and at the end of the journey the car started to develop the same familiar problem.
i managed to get the car to my home, but when i switched the engine off and then on again the entire dashboard lit up like a xmas tree.

i then did a the battery reset for a couple of hours and now the dashboard behaves normal again, but the CEL light is still on.
the main problem i have is that the throttle does not work at all now. there is zero response when the pedal is pushed down.
if anything the revs go down when i try and accelerate.

i tried closed and full throttle resets, but it does not seem to have any effect.

did anyone on here have the same experience? is there another way to reset the ECU perhaps to get out of this 'limp mode' so that i can at least drive to the garage rather than calling a tow truck?

anyway - any advice or similar experiences would be much appreciated!

thank you!!!!

Hi !
Reset the ECU can't help you.

If the CALIBRATE reset PROCEDURE of potentiometer fail , your potentiometer is over.
You can find a DY page for repair potentiometer and calibrate it physically .
Make the bypass of wiring and/or make connector modification can help you too fisrtly.

i seem not to be able to locate that threat. do you mind pointing me in the right direction?

otherwise i guess the only option is to buy a new one...

It's when the tracks/resistors get worn, usually at the same point. It will through up an error from time to time gradually becoming more often the worse they get. Only real fix is to go contactless. It's £400 for the throttle body refurb. Not sure of cost for peddle pot.

I can make you a contactless pedal pot for £350, the standard one is £475. Probably have some later this week. If you have a multimeter i can send you some directions as to where the voltage outputs on the pedal sensor are, you could measure them and work out whats going on maybe? PM me if you need some help here.
