I know this is not really a Porsche place .. but lots of you guys have one - or have had one or are generally brilliantly helpful and practical.

A pal of mine has just picked up this little thing on a late night internet purchase. Very original car, for not a lot of money, needs a little tidying up ... but only a little. Been standing, undriven since 2012 and has been recommissioned (some fresh ones etc) .. but probably needs a service, maybe more. (It's got a huge history file and has been cherished)...

Any recommendations for a indy specialist Surrey/ Berkshire/ Hampshire to look after it ?

Parr west sussex. RSJ Slough. Uber GT Reading. Try those for starters. RSJ is probably a hood starting point - spk to Joel.

I hope your mate knows what might be lurking in that potential money-pit. No duch thing as a little tidying up for not a load of money with a Porsche. But I've never been into front-engined Porsche cars and know very little about them. Good luck to your mate.

I use Steve Bull Porsche in Devizes (Wiltshire I know, but not too far away). In fact I'll be there tomorrow to pick up a car. But there are plenty of good Porsche specialists out there, far more so than Maserati. That said, not all of them are up to speed on the 924, just as many Maserati garages are not good with biturbos.

I am on 911uk! What will the poster get extra other than "dont use him, they"re cr*p and screwed up my wifes dad's mate car" or "use x and y and the best guy for a 924 is in Glasgow"
But its a free world so choice is the name of the game.

But took 60 years to evolve into the finest iconic 911 Sports car ever. Never saw anything in front-engined Porsches - the 924 944 and 928 (the 928 was the Porsche that was going to be the successor to the 911).

Having a 911 Turbo and Gransport enables an appreciation of two very different cars that are unique in their own way. An Audi RS4? A volume producrd Audi with a dose of Oxo shoved into the engine. Not quite the same. But they appeal to some boy-racers

I agree the 928 looks great. But the electrics are a nightmare. I’d love a genuinely reliable 928S4 in Baltic blue with cream leather.

So am I, but a dedicated forum might not be a bad place to look for advice, that's all. Just trying to help!

I should also have mentioned Ken Napier at Nine Excellence (9E) in Horley, near Gatwick. Ken has a very good name and reputation as do RSJ, Parr and Uber GT. I dont know what level of expertise they have with front-engined Porsche models. JZM in Kings Langley is another good name dealer with their own workshops. I think Uber GT sell cars but not service and maintenance. The rest in this list service and maintain Porsche cars.

Didn't MAF buy a cheap 944 and ended up scrapping it in the end due to bodged repairs and rot?

In reply to various..

Yes ... not my cup of tea either... but each to their own..

Porsche forum probably best ... but that's up to him..

Long experience of you lot, suggests your recommendations actually worth something, and lots of you with hands on experience of eccentric car choices..

And yes Tyrone could be worth a shout, but he's a paint man, though bound to know someone..
