In the front yes, and its also illegal to have a drunk person in the front passenger seat.

In the back, its ok. Something to do with being able to interfere with the cars controls.

JUst done an internet search on the legalities and nothing definate is coming u, just talk on internet forums, and 'they' are not reliable, present internet forum excluded...

ISn't that illegal? I read somewhere that you could be prosecuted, if caught, for having alcoholic beverages in the driving cabin of a vehicle? Hence they have to be in the boot...dunno if it's true or not.

No it appears to be okay. :thumb3

Regularly come back from France with alcohol on the back seats. Have been stopped by the rozzers a number of times - I think they see a car laden and can't resist. The last time the only thing in the boot was a sack of leeks and a box of misc. cheeses. Apart from being disappointed with that discovery the fuzz didn't bat an eyelid at the copious quantity of alcohol inside the cabin.

Fair enough, I know the law changes all the time but this was the case some years back.

Highway code is probably the best place to look at.

On this subject (sort of) when you guys go on your away trips - do any of you have access to Metro? Or Makro here for that matter. Either way, if not, it would be worth taking a look. Fabulous quality at French wholesale prices. We do 99% of our shop there on our day trips and it saves a small fortune.

Hi there - I don't blame you for not buying food at Makro. Particularly now it has been taken over by Booker. Previously the occasional pork shoulder for sausages but that was about it. A one stop shop for purveyors of, as my French friends say, Les Burgers du Mort.

Metro couldn't be more different. It's embarressing the difference! Very much for the professional restaurant and hotel trade. There are similarities of course in that it is a warehouse but that's about it.

Metro sold 90% of Makro to Booker's but have retained the other 10 - hence you can still get access. Typically you will have to present a passport at entry ( Calais keep it for the duration) and sign a chitty giving access. This chitty is presented at checkout, etc, etc. Just don't forget to collect your passport on the way out as we, very nearly, did.

Obviously you"d be buying catering sized quantity but between a group of you that shouldn't represent an issue. Specific examples - wines/berrs/spirits approx. 40% less than French supermarkets. It varies of course but I'd say that's a reasonable average. Where we make the greatest saving is with meat/fish/cheese. Top notch quality, prepared beautifully, and in most instances less than half of the French high street/supermarkets.

www.metro.fr. will let you browse some of the website. We managed to blag a French card several years ago which gives full access to the website and easier access to the stores. The Boulogne store were more accommodating in this regard.

I couldn't recommend highly enough that you take a look. On top of everything else the people working there are genuinely friendly too.

I think thats in the USA. You cant have any open alcoholic containers in the cabin at all. Its supposed to be in the boot or in a bag if its in the cabin and still sealed.

Oooh lala!, thank you.

Avec plaisir. It may be an idea to email the store nearer the time - to make certain of access. In our experience though they are more than happy to do business.

I mention it as there is talk of a Tesco/Booker tie-up. When it is likely Metro will jetisone their remaining 10%. Don't see it happening anytime soon though - Mergers and Monopolies Commision and all that. I'd also, respectfully of course, suggest that it would be better to keep numbers in the store down to 3 maybe 4 at a time.

Metro won't be used to a hoard of p*ss*d- up thugs arriving en masse. Did I just say that out loud - it's the tourettes you know. :)

Back to the original thread....this is a picture thread, not a cash and carry thread.

TOP all the way.

You've been to the Hillington store haven't you. I have and it's an f'ing sh*te hole. But apologies for the thread drift - just thought it might have been of actual use.
