Personalised number plate removal

My potential 4200 CC purchase has one of these personalised number plates on and I'm not a fan. I've e-mailed the DVLA form their website about this and I'm awaiting a response but while I wait, does anyone here know the answer to this?

Can I, or will they be able to remove this number plate and sell it, if it has a value, then issue me with a proper age related number plate for the car? I've had a quick look about and they seem to go for about £100 - £300 ish but I suspect the selling price will be less.
I'm hoping the cost of the transfer can be covered by the funds received from the one on the car. Does that all make sense?

Ta,
Mike.

YOu just have to put it on retention...Get a form from the DVLA web site.....Just put in putting a number plate on retention and it will come up.......It costs £105 to put it on retention for a year. You will then have the rights to the private plate and will be able to sell it on if you want........They will issue you with the original number plate to put on the car once its on retention. You send off the MOT, V5 and payment.........I've just done mine. You used to be able to take to a DVLA office but I think they have all shut down now so you have to post..It takes about 7 to 10 days to come back.

Right, found it. That's all clear and by the looks of it I'll get a proper age related number plate back on it. Perfect, thank you.

Exactly what Andy said. Just completed a plate transfer (onto retention initially) from our Alfa when we sold it a couple of months ago. Paperwork all back from DVLA in just over a week. About the same timeframe when we put it on another vehicle. Original plate went back on the Alfa.
