Decided to take the family out today and ended up parking in a Council Run Newbury Carpark. Spotting the bays where quite small and not wanting to ding the doors trying to get the kiddies out (or having Jo public park too close) I decided to straddle over into a second bay. Upon returning to my car I had a fixed noticed for parking outside the bay.

I am wondering if this is worth appealing given the description is a little genetic. i.e What part of the car was actially over the bay? Also i reckon i could argue I had to park over owing to the space next to me or that my car is quite simply too large fit the little bays. I've been doing this a while now so it was probably about time!!!

What do you reckon my chances are on appeal? I do like a good complaint to challenge.

Tough call...I know in Paris, high end car owners frequntly park where they shouldn't and put up with fines, partly because putting on a new bumper etc is £1.5K.......and there fines are graded according to a sliding scale.........so during the course of the year, whats 20 fines for £20.......well worth the cost.....plus as each new president lets people off parking fines etc, it means every fifth year, nothing to pay!!!

Only the French - Great system. I too did comment to the wife that the ticket is only £25 if settled early, which is a small price to pay for the peace of mind that there shouldn't be any dings or dents on the car.

yeah i was going to say that too, the price of the fine is going to be pennys compared to any damage.

i would fight it though, i think the best thing is pay it so you have paid within the discounted period, then appeal.

Give it a go, the council are famous for backing down if someone just won't let it lie!

I would not go from the angle that your car is too big, rather, you had no choice as the cars parked both sides were both parked over into the next bays and the only way you could fit was as you did.

Then get them to prove that the other cars wern't and bingo, you'll get off I recon.

If they produce a photo of your car with the ones next to you parked correctly, just say those were not the cars that you parked next to.

Bloody parking Nazis!!!

Can you really be bothered to contest it for the sake of £25?? Not worth the hassle if it was me.

**** yes! £25 in my pocket or the county council's purse - No contest.

One phone call tomorrow and I will have them bang to rights.....Some days you just gotta stand up and fight the system.

Update to follow.....

I'm a huge believer in fighting injustice, but you weren't parked correctly, fair play if you can get away with it though. I regularly park like this, especially in a GTS, for the same reason and it's certainly a jobsworth that's given the ticket.

I agree you did not actually park incorrectly so its tough. I have had quite a few parking tickets, guilty of all. I remember on Club Scuderia a 360 driver regularly parked over 2 parking spaces and he got slammed by most readers.

If you can give a good reason for doing so, then surely allowances can be made.

In N Ireland today they are bringing in a bag tax.....exemptions are for those collecting prescriptions and takeaways.......so if larger parking spaces can be allocated to the handicaps and families, why not to bigger than average cars and those with expensive cars!!!!!

After all you pay extra tax to put these cars on the road, which is just a punitive/discriminatory tax, why not get a little something back?
