Pair Valve GTS Exhaust with QP S 4,7

Hi Guys,

Managed to find myself a pair of used QP Sport GT S mufflers for upgrading my QP V 4,7S.
Now here is the big question.

Since my QP S 4,7 didnt have the valved mufflers its a bit tricky to make them work as it was delivered from Maserati...
So my question is how can the valve mufflers work pretty close to how they were designed by Maserati for the QP Sport GT S?

I assume that by pressing the sport button / mode the valves were opened. But i also guess that they dont only have FULL OPEN / FULL SHUT status but also in between depending on the engine load and revs......?!

I know that Formular Dynamics has a kit but as far as i have read this only lets you override the ON / OFF..... or am i wrong concerning this matter?

I'd love to pair the valved ones exactly the way they were by Maserati on the QP Sport GT S but a lot of posts / people stated that its not easy to pair them with the SPORTs button....

Can you guys help?

Cheers

Fred

There is a writeup here somewhere how to connect everything up regarding the vaccum lines. From the wiring diagrams on eurospares you could probably figure out what parts you need to hook them up based on the factory install.
But here comes the problem: the GTS mufflers wont fit a QP. The tips on a QP are a bit longer compared to a GT. So unless you want to cut the tips of your own muffles and weld them back on the gts mufflers you would have to look for QP valved mufflers.

To help you out I might be interested in buying the GTS mufflers of your hands.

Hi, as far as i was told the difference between the S and the GTS exhaust only starts after the middle section. Since i have bought exactly that part it should fit in my mind.....

Then you are fine, the exhaust is a straight swap over. To use the valves you have 2 options:

  1. the FD remote kit or
  2. Build your own kit with a simple switch so you can turn the valves on or off without interfering with the sports button, if you PM me ill give you details of how I did it

I've got some Tubi rear competition boxes (no valves), that I'll be selling in a few weeks if you're interest.
I assume they'll fit, removed from my 4.2 2008 Granturismo.

Thank you!

I will PM you in a minute but is that just a standard ON / OFF procedure to have the valve permanently OPEN / CLOSED or will this also affect the way they work under load?

I'm not sure about all this, I like the sound of my bog standard one, only thing is I cant hear it in the car! Especially as my driver window still isn't behaving, it's the one thing I've been unable to sort....

Walking to work along the A8 in Edinburgh, I see and hear all sorts go past, what would scare me would modifying the stock setup and ending up sounding like a Subaru Impreza, just a raspy roar...

thats exactly the reason why i want the original Maserati QP Sport GT S one..... (i like the sound of the Larini also but they lack of homologation was the main reason (besides keeping everything stock maserati) to opt for the Maserati one.....

The valves will either be open or closed. There is no change under load, or “part open” setting. As suggested above, it would be better in install an additional separate switch for operating the valves, so that you can do this independently of the Sport button.
