Folks

Looking to swap my rather worn paddles for some spanky GS ones. I seem to recall that there was a How-To on here, but damned if I can find it.
Any pointers?

TIA

If I recall correctly the procedure is as follows:

Disconnect battery and wait 10 mins

Remove column shroud (three screws from below I think)

Remove two screws from either side of the steering wheel (torx)

Remove steering wheel

Remove steering wheel centre nut (mark position)

Attempt to remove steering wheel. Swear a lot, have a cup of tea, break out puller and remove steering wheel

This should then reveal the flaps which are secured to the switch assembly with allen screws. As I was fitting cruise control when I did this I removed the whole assembly but I imagine it is pretty simple from here.

Enjoy (esp the steering wheel bit)....

BTDT, cheers.

Will have a poke around. Not sure I want to use my puller on the wheel hub.

C, I tightened mine up recently without needing to remove the steering wheel. You may be lucky!

I didn't either, if its tight there is no other way.

The shell of the wheel is composite of some sort but the flange where it bolts onto column is steel. I wrapped it in electrical tape, secured the puller legs in place with a strategically placed cable tie and tightened it slowly. It was easily the most difficult steering wheel removal I have done I'm afraid.

So dumb *** question: The actual boss needs to come off, yes? Not enough clearance by removing the 4 allen keys and just taking off the outer part per the photo up there ^^^?

Funny(ish) story. Changed the wheel on my old Giulietta many moons ago. No one told me the trick about leaving the nut on the stem until you'd broken the wheel free :)

I seem to recall I was able to remove the wheel leaving the boss in place, and was still able to change the paddles over to carbon fibre ones.

Thanks, it seems plausible. I've changed my wheel twice, but never removed the boss.

Didn't think the GS ones were different, they were either black or silver depending on trim colour?

Yah mine is too but seen smooth silver on 4200's before when they have the silver centre consule.

What carbon fibre ones do you have,,?

There is a guy in Oz selling extended carbon ones with a red trim detail

Any chance of a pic of yours with carbon paddles fitted

Yes they are the ones I've got. Picked mine up on eBay from a Melbourne guy who had them fitted to his Ferrari 360?.
He took them off for selling the car.
Will post picture tomorrow.

No need to remove steering wheel or airbag - just turn the wheel 90 degrees and undo the phillips screws on either site then remove the allen key bolts from the bottom of the steering shroud (I think there's 5).
The top and bottom bits of the shroud should come out and you can access the two phillips screws on each of the paddles.

Will have a look as soon as they arrive :)
