Oysters by post?

I’m off to Essen via 298,500-mile Alfa 156 this Friday, leaving the wife alone at home with three dogs and shopping with the in-laws. To apologise, I’m considering ordering her some oysters and white wine - has anyone done this, do they turn up as they should, or is it a surefire way to increase the stock value of Armitage Shanks in the aftermath?

Wow. I've ordered many food stuffs on line, and every time it's been fine. Would I do it with Oysters? Probably not. Where are you thinking of getting them from?

I would not trust such a service, much safer to post the exact dates you are away on here, together with your address, and I am sure you will get offers to personally deliver the oysters and wine ;)

Sounds like a great idea, as long as your wife is confident about shucking oysters and you have the right sort of knife and mit/hand protection at home. I was taught how to do it years ago on a cookery course, but it is quite easy to stab yourself! I’m sure the mail order companies use the right sort of insulated chiller boxes.

"Hi. I'm the oyster and wine delivery guy." I'm fairly certain I've seen the film for which that's the opening line.

Well, the first 20 minutes of it, anyway.
