Hi all, my 3200GTA occasionally over revs upto 3000 rpm when in park or neutral and it's quite alarming! Does anyone have any ideas on the cause, the best method of repair and an idea of cost?

Thanks

Hi Safrane

Let's hope it's the peddle pot not the TB, she had a new TB a couple years ago at £1500!

Yes pedal pot.

Do reset for idle position.

Turn ignition to MAR for 2 minutes, turn off and then start car.

Then full throttle

Turn to MAR, press accelerator to floor for 10 seconds, release, turn ignition off. Start car

Send love to forum members for fixing your car :)

As you haven't mentioned a check engine light or limp home mode it could be one of two things: either you have an air leak from somewhere or someone has fiddled with the electrics (crossed over yellow and white wire by the pedal pot or the dash indications).. If a throttle reset has an effect I would say it's the throttlepot. If not, check the butterfly of the throttlebody moves freely WITH THE IGNITION TURNED OFF.

Yes had this it will be the usual belly pan gasket on the underside of the plenum. The screws fall into the V of the block and then the gasket gets sucked in which adds more air post throttle body so it's unmetered.

When it starts it generally does it all the time. Listen for a sucking noise from under the plenum.

If it does it occasionally then I would agree it's the pedal pot or throttle body.

when my pedal pot broke it would carry on revving for about 1-2 seconds after lifting off, was quite scary at times!

i got a contact less one, i was still having issues but things happened so i havent got round to looking into them yet

Mine keeps climbing up in rpm as soon as I engage neutral or park, intermittently not all the time. Looking into the pedal pot as we speak.

Does it go into limp mode at any point?

Have you tried the pedal reset? Forget the full throttle one just do the idle for 2 minutes.
