well, i thought my maserati bad luck had ran out with Marci but no........the GT has front sub frame rot and failed the MOT so guess my sell or not sell post is pretty moot now since if i was going to sell it needed to pass an MOT. Waiting to hear if it is a repair in situ or replacement frame but cant believe it. had her over 3 years and in that time she has rarely seen wet roads and never seen salt so WTF maserati......get your act together on production quality!
will update once i know more but will probably now sell her once fixed, i've had enough pain as i can take from this maserati life, much as i have always loved the brand.......

well that's a pain. I have been treating the underside and sub-frames on my 3200 as long as I have owned it and I am doing a bit of tidying up on the underside at the moment, its a constant battle.

Mine is in the air also,at the moment. Rust proofing done, now fabricating and fitting new brake lines front to back.

Sorry to hear this, what year is your GT ?

My old one was 2010 but was low mileage and clean as a whistle underneath, I then had it protected in 2019.

The Strad was like new when I got her and I did protection straight away and had it topped up this year as well.

Maserati have a lot to answer for in terms of lack of protection, but then so do many other brands.

Sorry to hear that my friend. Shocking how Maserati didn’t get this right in this day and age. Hope it is not to bad and you can get it sorted without an big impact on your wallet.

It’s shocking really that Maserati have let this lack of protection go on for so long. Mind you it was the same with Alfa, I remember my Brera subframe crumbling away. Mercedes on the other hand have a similar problem on rear subframes particularly on the SLK but they’re rusting from the inside out. They’re now replacing any rusted subframes going back 20 years with or without service history free of charge. Considerably less involved than the Maserati subframe but at least they’ve taken ownership of the problem.

There is no excuse for Maserati and other manufacturers issues with rot in subframes these days, we have had the technology to protect them better for years but they still get away with it. It does put me off a GT as even when one has been treated it is how well has it been done. Friend has just had to do the same job on a Brera S he has bought even though I warned him to check, his is not too far gone but I have advised him to get a fully restored one fitted the labour is about the same.

things go wrong it's unfortunate. I have had the white screen of death on mine so on sorting that out. annoying though as the second hand one in USA are in worse condition button wise than mine.

She is getting the subframe fixed now. hopefully ready within the next few days. will drive her till my birthday in mid july then decide on next move, ty for advice and support over this. i have tbh, this has tarnished my relationship with the brand. A top of the range car in its day should not be rotting away less than 15 years later when hidden from winter salt, long story short, shame on you maserati. Still, I cant wait to get her back and detail her and step back and look at just how beautiful she is........sigh, aint love painful even when you know it is onesided?

Salt is far less common on the roads, and many Leftpondians put their cars away for the winter, anyway

I drive mine year round...but we have these things called "hoses" that connect to "spigots" or "bibs" and allow one to actually wash...never mind, I seem to recall a thread where folks argued about spraying salt off their cars.

Of course, it hasn't snowed in this part of Leftpondia in two years or more.
