OMG! What have I done? What is this?

G'day fellas, hope you're all well. The car has been running a treat so I've been a bit quiet of late but last weekend, with a car full of teenagers, I ran over a section of disturbed tarmac and bottomed out. This, I later discovered is the consequence.

Can someone please tell me what it is that I've smashed and what it does? It appears to be a flat, rectangular box which is attached to the underside of the transaxle.

The car continues to run fine but I need to know.

Oh, that is bad. Not sure if your laws are the same over there but here, thats a local council claim.

Its listed as the torsion damper so its sort of a brace for the gearbox probably to add stiffness and reduce vibration I suppose.
