Number plate fixing plate - front bumper

Hi Guys,

My car does not have a front bumper number plate fixing plate. I believe this was removed due to a more "aesthetically pleasing" number plate solution being used.

I was hoping someone might be able to help and I was wondering what size the number plate fixing plate was? Especially in length (ooh-er!). In particular if it is longer than 400mm.

Also does it fixing plate result in the number plate being placed below the grill of the original bumper, or, will the top of the bumper plate stick up in to the grill area?

i.e. is it like this:

or this

Thanks all

It can be done either way. The fixing plate sits well below the grill, so you are free to choose the position of the number plate holder.

Thanks Danny, I don't suppose you know the length?

The plate could be attached directly to the bumper.

I can measure the fixing plate tomorrow, end of the day, unless someone beats me to it

Rossyl, the fixing plate is 21 cm long (or 210 mm if you like to know in mm). I am not anywhere near my PC at the moment, but I'll try to post some pics later this evening. Height is only 3 or 4 cm, more difficult to measure because of the number plate and number plate holder that is bolted on + the narrow space in my garage. Hope this is the answer you were looking for.

Regards, Danny

Thank you very much for taking the time to do this, and take the photos and upload them - most kind of you.

I don't suppose you've any idea if that is standard - anyone else have it?

Looks a very good.

Thanks

Mine is rather mangled after a few close up parkings in it's lifetime...

Eurospares list them at £40.10 Any interest in a group buy if I get them lasered folded & powder coated for about £25.00????

Yes, I'm in thanks, sounds good.

I'm trying to decide how to attach the plates without a fixing plate in the meantime.

Saw Dem the other day and he uses the strip of velcro on the bumper and the number plate sitting on the dash technique!

I'll have a chat with my engineers about getting some made up to confirm what price ia achievable; could do anodised aluminium I suppose, save a few grams?

My 4200 has the original plate braket but the number plate was attached only with some double sided tape and has been falling off.
Would be the best solution to fix this?
1) refit with double sided tape?
2) put some screws? better if plastic but I will have to make holes in the frame and number plate.
3) add a holder frame like in the pictures at page 1 of this discussion?

I've just fitted a 'naughty' smaller front number plate. The previous full size one was attached with screws which had deformed the mounting plate slightly. The mounting plate is a bit thin and cheap.
I've bashed it flat, and attached the new plate with heavy duty velcro from B&Q. Better than double sided pads and you can align it level perfectly!

Just ordered a sticker front plate for Europe :) A special 'short' model that can be tucked well out of the way!

You can get good double sided sticky tape for number plates and they work, or you can get heavy duty velcro, sometimes plasticized and that works well too..!!
