Normal revs?

Morning all,

Quick question I hope - blipping the throttle in neutral yesterday I noticed that as the engine revs come back down to 2k the rate of fall in the revs slows considerably until it idles again at 1k ish ie between 2k and 1k it does not fall at the same rate as elsewhere in the rev range. Is this normal? Going up is fine and everything else is normal - no check light, codes, drives well, etc. just never really noticed this in other cars before?

Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions.

Was expecting someone else to chip in. Been a very long time since I drove a 4200 but sounds sort of normal to me.

Same for me, but I would say normal. If it didn’t slow down the rate of change the inertia would stall the engine.

Yes it sounds normal

Only time mine didn't do it is when the inlet split open causing the mother of vacuum leaks and the engine would stall with the revs dropping quite dramatically

Great - thanks fellas! As I say car drives as expected but always listening/watching for unexpected/unusual noises and things. Ahh the joys of owning a Maserati!

I was always dreading turning the key and something going ping in an un-expectedly expensive way
