Hi guys

I am looking at a 2005 4200 spyder 90th anniversary. The car is missing its owners manual. There appears to be some issues with warning lights on start up that I'm hoping you can shed some light on...see the photo below.

I have only owned Ferrari's in the past so this isn't a car that I am familiar with.

1. the EBD light doesn't illuminate at all when key is in MAR 2 pre hitting the start button

2. the amber MSP light with the strike through doesn't illuminate in MAR 2 also

3. the suspension failure light doesn't illuminate either

Can anyone advise as to possible causes.... is it likely that these issues are linked.... could there be an underlying issue this is indicative of (other than someone removing the led's to trying to hide an issue)

Thoughts appreciated...

I don't have access to the car can try when I see it next weekend.

They guys who looked after my 360 has the Leonardo SD3 unit with the 4200 software.... can I presume that if someone has tampered with the dash or the control units etc for the suspension/ EBD/ MSP that this will get picked up?

Tampered with I doubt. Failed, yes I would expect there would be fault codes. At a *guess* and it is only a guess right now, the bulbs have been taken out. Rather surprised it would pass an MOT, but there are those that know better.

Not sure they would be linked (Maybe MSP and EBD both failing could indicate a failure of the braking ECU, but I'm not that clued up to be sure), but assuming the worse, and each function has failed, that could be very expensive indeed.

Anything else you can tell us about the car? It may be known on here.

Original reg is UK - Northern Ireland I believe GEZ3758, Hursts saw the car with circa 6K miles on it, imported into Southern Ireland in 2007, same owner down south since 2007.

Bought with circa 12K miles in 2007 currently has 17.5K

Blue with Blue hood, blue back of seats and the usual leather fabric mix.

Missing books.... However the owner since 2007 is an extremely reputable lady.... if any fixing has been done ... it won't have been done by her knowingly... not short of a bob or two..

Stick it on the SD3 then. That should give you a better idea :)

Removing bulbs of failed components seems to be a common practice of some dodgy sellers.
Eyes wide open!

Also go for a test drive and apply hard brakes to see if the wheels lock or the abs kicks in.

I am looking at a 2006 4200 Spyder with similar problems. Did you purchase this vehicle, if so were you able to get the problems rectified, was it just the bulbs taken out, or were there bigger issues. Or did the problems put you off. I do not have access to an SD3, but at this early stage debating to walk away from the vehicle, or undergo the expense of taking the vehicle to a specialist. Any advice from your experience would be helpful.

Welcome Brian.
Whereabouts are you as it's really worth getting the car scanned and looked at by someone in the know.

Most of the warning lights can be activated by the SD3 in order to check the operation.

I am in the UK, however the car is in Ireland.I will research SD3, but interested in establishing pricing to rectify any defaults, as per the original post. If anyone knows a good company in Ireland who can carry out a full SD3 check and provide me with a price on rectifying the issues, I would be grateful.

Does anyone have any instructions on accessing the bulbs to inspect and replace? I have one out on my 4200. Thanks.

Charles Hurst in Belfast or Ken Plant in Dublin are the best options.

Hi tomoshea is now ferrarireddino.... I bought the car in June of this year, decided to get everything sorted on it at a main dealer... still there :) but nothing major has been found.

As it happens the issue with my car turned out to be a faulty rear wheel ABS/ MSP sensor - which should have been detected by the garage that worked on the car for the previous owner, but somewhere along the lines some' additions' had been made behind the instrument binnacle....

Main dealer is putting a new binnacle for me £550... and while i'm at it I have had everything that needs doing completed, full service, new clutch, new rear suspension arms, all oils, disks, pads, and a faulty roof sensor and lid motor sorted.

As an engineer I walked into the purchase eyes wide open, had advised the previous owner of my concerns which impacted the price significantly.

So very much buyer beware!!!

Suggest you PM me re the car you are looking at, I know the people in Ireland you can trust and those you cannot - previously had a number of F cars!! Happy to talk if you want to.
