Hi everyone, after nearly 2 years of obsessing over buying a weekend car I decided to take the plunge and buy myself an early 30th birthday present... I considered all sorts options from M3's, S5, Porsche's to 370Z's and to be honest I didn't think for a second that the 4200 was feasible on my budget until I was reading a review on EVO comparing the 996 Carrera 2S to the Maserati 4200 as used purchases. Evo obviously preferred the 911 as they are Porsche fanboys (no offence Porsche owners) but that tweaked my interest and the obsession shifted!
I am the proud owner of a 2003 Maserati 4200 Coupe GT Manual. It has 58k miles on it now I have taken it on a road trip. I bought it from a local dealer who has a good reputation and sells all sorts of high power performance cars, he provided me with a 1 year Auto guard premium warranty with a £5 spend which covers most things down to the CD Player and timing chain (I will be renewing that next year!)
Currently going through the process of working out the niggles, I have opened a thread talking about how the lamps have blown on the Sport button and on the indicator behind the taco when the sport button is on. I will be changing the bulb behind the button soon. I have picked up a new bonnet badge from Maranello in Egham which I will be attempting to change this weekend.
Other niggles I have found so far, parking sensors don't work (no error message on info system), rear discs are pitted and need changing soon - under heavy breaking there is a bit of vibration through the pedal - also the brakes are not that great. Apparently it has newish front discs/pads and new rear pads. I am going to invest in new rear discs ASAP and steel braided lines for the front. Headlight lenses need restoring, I have the Meguiars lense restore kit on order. Usual interior wear issues, I saw a tip from someone on another thread to use fine wet/dry sanding paper to get the peeling chrome off the surrounds of the vents which is a great idea
On the positive side the dealer did a major service, replaced bushes on all four corners, changed main oil feeder pipe which was leaking, new tyres, front discs and pads and rear pads. The car was sent to the paint shop and was machine polished (no swirls!), the alloys were restored in dark glossy grey, painted the rusty disc hubs black, calipers black and wheel nuts black. Also he restored the drivers seat so it does not show an wear. All mechanical work was done at a tuning specialist in Woking.
Anyway I'm in the process of sorting her out and I will take photos along the way, here are some I have taken so far!
During my road trip on the weekend... way too much grit on the roads at the moment but it is still so pretty!
