"New EU legislation requires all new models of passenger cars sold in the EU to have a TPMS system installed from November 2012, and every new car from 2014. New vehicles fitted with TPMS and first registered from 1st January 2012 will have their TPMS system tested as part of the first MOT test the vehicle has carried out.

The legislation has been driven by environmental concerns as part of the EU’s commitment to reducing CO2 emissions, as well as safer motoring."

So, around MY2011/12 I guess?

It's a tad later than that as the first date relates to when cars were first type approved and start 2014 is the relevant date for production so 14MY. They first started making GT Sports in September 2012 so it was probably a cost option in the first year and standard in the second but I'm guessing on this. It was an option on mine (June 2011 build) and is well worth having IMHO.

PS I appreciate the heads up mind as a TPMS failure on mine is not an MOT fail due to DOR.

Thank you for the info guys, it became standard on all MY14 onwards. It was standard from 2012 or 13 in all EU countires apart from UK, then standard from the UK in 14 onwards. Just trying to workout if I should add as with no spare wheel think it maybe worth it's weight in gold. (Info supplied by Maserati UK)

I put it on my car for that reason especially as with low profile tyres there are times when you think there is a pressure problem and there is not it's just other things like cold, damp, road camber etc. Mine did it's job when I went through a pot hole a few miles from home, it alerted me straight away and I watched the pressure drop to 10 PSI as I limped home - big inside edge rip on the NSF tyre. Then needed recovery mind but I was not sat by the road!

Does the MY14 system use the ABS sensor or are there TPMS sensors on the valves inside the tyres? The latter can be a PITA when the batteries go flat.

It's the latter but at least that way you get an actual reading for each tyre whereas the wheel rotation version on many cars often needs a large pressure fall to register.
