Hi Guys,

just a quick update, i checked the plug for the AC fan and it was a loose connection so all is fine for now! Drained wiper fluid and smell is gone, so it must have just been old fluid from the car being left for a while before i bought it. Oil indicator low level light is still coming on and it appears to be happening when the engine fans kick in or the rear window defrost button is on. Oil is at the right level and recently changed so i will get the sender unit checked when its at JCT600.

Pics to come!

2 - The car rumbles at idle where i actually move in the car slightly caused by the torque effect is this normally or should it be perfectly smooth where i feel no movement

Do you still have the above problem?

If it is when the car is hot then it could be the radiator cooling fan running at full speed, which feels like a 747 at full thrust, when the fan should speed up in stages.

It was the fan resistor that controls the fan speed in my case, located behind the rad.

I just wanted to check it was normal and not the engine surging as it rumbles mainly when cold on start up but settles down when hot. The only other equivalent engine sized car i have owned was a E39 M5 and i felt no effect in the cabin unless i put my foot on the throttle and felt the torque so just wanted to be sure the slight rumble was normal with these engines on the GS.

Get this checked as low oil pressure would spell trouble but on the positive side, I have seen the use of the ancillaries causing low oil pressure readings which turned out to be the dial gauge itself. Contact BennyD for more details about this as he had this issue fixed by Marios.

Welcome I see most of the trouble makers have already introduced themselves just the infamous Benny to go, I'm sure he will be around soon

Very nice GS did you sort the oil pressure sender as they do fail.
Down here I'm using 10/60 with the hotter climate and oil pressure is much higher when hot than when running with the 5/40.
Now just under 2.5 bar at hot idle admittedly mine has a new oil/water pump in her but she is nearly on a 100,000 miles too.

Thanks guys, pleased i waited and got the spec that i wanted, the interior is full black leather with the red piping.

The issues are all fixed on the car now and it was the oil pressure sender that was causing the warning light, i had a full once over at JCT in Leeds and they also replaced the AC fan which had a loose connection which was causing the fans to stop working.

All in all everything is perfect!

Hi Guys,

Happy new year to you all.

I wanted to get some advice on the benefits of installing a full Larini exhaust system and the formula dynamics DBW enhancement?

Are they worth it and would changing the car from stock effect the value in years to come?

Also are there any planned meets in the north or Leeds area as it would be great to meet some of you!

Cheers

Mike

Keep the old parts as you will not get much of a return on the upgrades if you do part with the car.

So no they won't devalue the car as long as you dont think its worth much more than standard when fitted.

Don't bother with the DBW, just get the clutch set up properly with a PIS point of 4.5 or lower.

Exhaust, you can spend £4k and get a full Larini exhaust or you can PM BennyD and get him to supply the SM exhaust for a fraction of the price.

The modifications will improve an already great car, so go for it. When it comes to selling replace the standard parts on the car and sell the upgrade parts - you'll see at least 50% of your investment back. Modified cars are typically harder to sell and generally do not achieve a premium with the modifications fitted.

Hi Mike a belated welome from me to the Maserati fold. Nice example of the GS you have picked up too. My thoughts on your questions :-

Both the Larini and the formula dynamics DBW enhancements are a personal choice. Everybody that has had them seems to love them.

In terms of the effect on resale value if you leave them on the car then the won't detract from the value but will in my opinion make the car easier to sell but won't necessarily increase the sale price over a standard model of similar age, mileage and history. Providing that the potential buyer knows what the upgrades are and has considered them as an option on any purchase.

Keep all the original parts and you have the option then when and if you decide to sell to return the car to stock and sell the exhaust and DBW seperate to the car sale.

You wont ever get the full price you paid back for the Larini exhaust but a full system will sell quickly and for a good chunk of cash via the forum or ebay.

Eurospares had a second hand Larini system in last year and from memory it was around the £2500 area. The back boxes on their own are in the £700 to £800 region.

The DBW enhancement module i'm sure would be snapped up on here for a reasonable resale price as well.

Enjoy the car and hopefully we will see you as some of the meets during the year.

Hi Conaero is the SM exhaust of the same grade as the Larini as everyone just seems to have mentioned Larini to me so guessed it was the best option?

With the PIS on the clutch i guess most indy garages could do this for me?

Thanks for the welcome!

I will check Eurospares as mentioned my background in cars is mainly JDM so all of this is new to me so i appreciate the help!
