Oh dear.... Bit slippery on the M1 this morning. Brand new Levante needs a spot of buffing out.

Actually should I get some winter tyres for my wife's run around? Does it look like it is going to be a bad winter? Any good cheap recommended makes? It is only for a Ford Focus. The tyres will probably be worth more than the car.

Actually should probably get some for the Ghibli. The GTS can stay in the garage.

Any recommendations?

Oh dear, that's the first picture of one I've seen on the road - I don't care for the grill

I put vredestein wintrac xtremes on our Ford daily when we had it.They were very good. Sold them seperately once we sold the car, so didn't cost much in the long run.

I've been wondering if it's a Greypaul demonstrator... Drinks and nibbles at GP on Thursday evening might be a tad awkward if it is!

I've never bought winter tyres. Do they make that much difference?

Surely if it's cold/wet/icy on the road you just drive accordingly?

Yes. They make an enormous difference. You can't drive on icy roads with any sort of margin on summer tyres. It's one of those things that most Brits need to experience to understand the night and day difference it makes - even a keen driver like yourself Mark doesn't have the mindset that says winter tyres will allow you to drive with much more confidence and grip in the cold weather.

They make that much difference that I'd choose a rear wheel drive Maser with winter tyres over a 4x4 on summer tyres.

+1. I put them on three cars every winter even though the non-Maserati pair are 4WD. Makes a massive difference under braking.

Like that. My only comment is that option 2 & 3 swap sometimes in packed snow as FWD cars can struggle going up hills even on winters.
