I'm very happy for everyone to talk them down - I might be in the market for one in a few years' time if the prices go the way that Italian saloon cars usually do.

Given the price of second hand series 6 QP's I can't see why anyone would take a Ghibli instead, unless of course they only have a small parking space. The QP is the better drive, with better spec and finish, so as long as the extra few inches aren't too much for you, it's the car to go for.

Think the Grey most refer to is Grigio Maratea.....I agree, stunning,

I think that's my point, I don't want a Maserati to be "nice" or "fine". It's a bit like saying it's OK - Maseratis should be special, they should tug the heart strings they should make you feel good, they shouldn't be nice, fine or OK they should be stunning , exhilarating even awesome
100% agree with Andy........Maserati needs to be more than nice/fine.......and until the Ghibli and new QP they have always pulled o the heart strings.......The Ghibli is lovely but flawed and although MAseratis have always been flawed the Ghibli as a usable everyday car cannot afford to be flawed in a market of polished machines....

Why's it flawed Andy?
I drove an M5 and an E Class E350 before buying mine. It may not be as polished as the Germans but it's certainly not flawed. Given how many fast BMWs you've had, you of all people should know that the E46 M3 CSL is supposed to be the best of the best, yet I loved my Gransports much much more. No doubt the CSL was better, and prices are now reflecting that, but honestly the thrill was nothing compared the GS.
The Ghibli is the best daily driver that Maserati have ever produced and is an excellent choice for those that want to be different. The QP6 may be better in some ways but it's got a terrible back end and is nothing compared to the QP5 to look at. I agree with Ewan that it may be a better buy in some ways but you'd be looking at a slightly older car than a comparable Ghibli.
The Rosso Energie colour is fantastic but a very expensive option so not many around. I looked for one and couldn't find one, I know MAF had a look too. It seems to command a premium because of it's rarity.
My car is Grigio which is light than Grigio Maratea. I liked the plain old grigio better. They're very colour sensitive and the darker colours really hide several design points which, for me, makes the darker cars a poor choice.
On price, I paid £44,300 for my 6 months old, ex-demo car from Lancaster Colchester. The spec was £68k which shows you that there is some fast depreciation to contend with and that the dealers are in business to sell the cars. This is NO different from the Germans who will happily reduce a 550i or M5 by £15-20k for you before you really try. I know MAF also got a very good deal (I'll let him tell you what he paid). That price is a direct comparison to a 535i list which is £45k plus about £10k more to bring to a strong level. A 540i or 550i would cost quite a lot more. So in reality, it's similar in price to the Germans and comparable in power output and spec. Even the lease prices can be attractive.

It was athol's ghibli that really changed my mind on these and he is right re the Grigio showing up the lines well.

Perhaps I should have said a flawed gem......Just going on what i have read on hear from members who have driven them and what the press have said. I know one member couldn't wait to give it back after having one for the weekend but then others have loved it and bought one.....Admittingly living with one every day is very different from a weekend test drive and will show you more of the car.... living with it every day ......The car looks stunning and especially your colour. I think the styling is lovely.....
