Getting so fed up with the GS hunt that I went out & bought an Alfa GT today as an interim car. Funnily enough it has just about all the spec I want in a GS.

Collect it on Wednesday

Been crossing over on threads Andy...

Diesel power, my first ever. 3.2 phased out in 2008 so too old and didn't want another thirsty car in the fleet. This will fulfil a few current needs and averages something like 45mpg - unheard of in my family!

Pic 'borrowed' from car giant as mine looks identical. This one came through a mate who trades in much fancier fare. As usual my starting budget was something like half what I ended up spending, but a '08 with 1 owner, low miles with all the toys like full leather, BOSE sounds etc. and a mates rate price it was too good to walk away from. Didn't know anything about the Blackline as my original budget wouldn't have got near one, but there are a few things like the interior trim, black gauges and 18" alloys that makes it stand out from other GTs. Can't believe I'm vaguely excited about driving a diesel!

MAF,

I ran a Blackline Q2 GT for two years before getting the 4200. I really loved that car - never let me down in about 30k miles. Was mapped by red dot and had about 190bhp and stocking torque. IMHO the Q2 mechanical torsen diff is a must.

Check out http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/carreviews/2744796/What-a-difference-a-diff-makes.html

It's a cheap-ish after market mod, but it makes for the most fun I've ever had in a front wheel drive car. The GT looks great, is practical and I recon the looks aren't fading at all - still looks fresh - but I never got close to 45mpg - more like 30mpg - I was having too much fun.

Enjoy

Nice one Maf, is it diesel or V6? Mine rebuild has stalled at the moment, trying to find a painter, but hope to have it on the road by the end of October.

Dom,

Thanks for the tip. I've had a quick look into it and for £500 fitted it seems a no-brainer. Probably worth having done before any remap as it seems pointless having extra power & torque if it can't be transmitted to the road. I also came across the following link which demonstrates it really well:

Matt,
Like yours, it's an oil burner - my first. After reading about the car and some of the responses on here I'm looking forward to it way more than I thought I would! Roll on Wednesday....

Oh, one last tip.

With the Q2, you will find you want to switch off the ASR as a matter of course - it just gets in the way of feeling what is actually going on.

If you search on the AlfaOwners forum, there is a guy in Holland I think who can sell you a simple module that reverses the sense of the ASR switch - default off instead of default on.

Q2 going to be fitted in the next couple of weeks, the lack of it is impeding forward motion.

Last week saw the tuning done (spins wheels in 1st, 2nd & 3rd now!) new tyres all round and a full geometry check and adjustment on a Hunter machine. Quite a difference after a few adjustments, the car no longer tramlines and feels a lot more chuckable. 40+mpg was different for a month, I'm now expecting closer to 30 as the car becomes more enjoyable to drive:
