This is my answer to getting a cheap spare wheel for the 3200.
I'm going to change the wheel for a 17'' one as it has better clearance.
Fits both front and back.

You need a space saver from a Volvo V70, £20 off E-bay, a 25mm spacer, £25, and a set off wheel bolts and nuts.

Bolt the spacer to the Hub.

Bolt the wheel to the spacer, and job done.

Good idea, where is the spacer from?
How does it look in the boot?
Cheers

I read that the Volvo xc90 has the same PCD as the 42/GS. Has anyone tried one of these wheels?

In my view, too small on diameter.
The collapsible spare wheel as supplied OEM when specified for the 42/GS inflates to the correct diameter, not sure if a smaller diameter spacesaver wheel would cause problems with the 42/GS transmission if fitted to the rear.
Thats the reason why I decided to use the same collapsible tyre for my solution, as supplied to certain Mercedes SL models.

I see your point, I think it is about 10% smaller. Do you know the tyre size of the MB wheel? I'm thinking if one of those tyres would go on an xc90 wheel it would be the best of both worlds....

I seem to remember the OE spare was a 17" with a balloon tyre, I might be wrong though..??

From memory it's a 185/60 17 once inflated.
I'm in Italy at the moment and just burst a tyre on the hire car. Hit a hidden concrete slab hidden in a grass verge. Side wall split so had to put on a space saver.
This is why I got a space saver for the Maser, shaving foam no good in such circumstances!

But why were you doing driving in the verge? Found the extent of ability ? :D

Nothing as exciting, walking pace passing a parked car on a holiday home site on the edge of Lake Garda.
What a day.
'Recovery truck'... a van, turns up an hour late and then realises I need a new tyre (told Budget this). I then through a translator asked to follow him into town to get a new tyre.
At garage wait another 30 minutes before being asked in very broken English to follow their recovery truck to another garage who will replace the tyre. Get to second garage which is 30 minutes drive away (after recovery truck picks up another non driveable Audi, no spacesaver and failed shaving foam) only to discover they are closed. So now proceed to third garage, that does not have the correct sized tyre!
They then phone the rental company and I am taken to Verona airport to pick up a new hire car. I then have to make my own way back from Verona with no map or sat nav, I was only supposed to follow the first guy into the local town originally!
Totally disgusted with Budget/Avis, completely ruined my day, 6 hours from start to finish, then I get an earful from the Mrs when I got back, even though texted at every change of plan (women, can never win with that one!), biggest problem most Italians don't speak English.
Only plus was one of the garages specialised in the original Fiat 500, will post some pictures...

Mike, you burst a tyre by driving over a concrete slab at walking pace? What was the tyre made of? Liquorice? My advice mate is to keep on the black stuff! ;)
