23.3mpg US converted to UK works out nearly 28MPG ?!

The fact that you noticed means it probably was not a very interesting drive!!! i have also got similar out of my 3200 on occasions, i think even over 30 mpg on one or two occasions, especially warm sunny days on b-roads with no hurrying, if the turbos are not spooled up it runs like a normal car!!! I presume the electronics on the normally aspirated cars does some thing similar and tries to conserve fuel when you are not asking for power.

Passed you twice infact, you managed to get in a faster lane through the road works so I had a second look!
Not surprised you had good mpg...both times I passed you, you where going no more than 70...If that!!!!
