Morning Guys

I am moving house shortly but unfortunately the new place does not have a garage. (You dont want to know how many arguments we had about this, arrrgh )

Anyway, I wonder if anyone has a good quality car cover ideally for a gransport / 4200 they may want to let go for a reasonable price?

Yours sulkingly

I don't have a cover but might be worth give your local council a call, they usually have lots of spare garages around, or the local rag might have a few available to rent.... I had to do this when my mrs decided my record collection should live in the garage and I didn't want to leave my car on the drive. Good luck with the move.

I had not thought about council garages, and will make a few enquiries.

My only concern would be security?

I rented a council garage for my old XJS - I could only just get the door open and it was bumper to bumper against wall and door. I was concerned about security too but fortunately the old beast seldom started so it wasn't much of a risk. More helpfully I don't think there's any reason why you can't add a couple of your own padlocks to the door.

Yeah I think you can add dead locks to the garage, or one of those locks cemented in the ground, also if they have a few pick one in a nice spot, or rent a private one at someone else's house, don't forget to let the insurance know you are keeping it overnight at the address of the garage, that also might be a good indicator of how secure it will be.

It could be just the motification which Mrs jamesc69 needs to reconsider her position on the necessity of a garage.

You could see if any of the neighbours is too old to drive and has an empty garage you could rent & top up their pension with?

What, no garage!
I can hardly cope with a double, had to buy a shed so all the garden stuff/bikes etc where not in the garage...a garage is for cars, and nothing else!
The problem with a rented garage is location, unless 'next door', you find the hassle of a long walk/drive to the garage will result in your car hardly been used 'too much trouble'.
Car covers are okay, but the car needs to be clean and dry before use, again resulting in 'too much trouble'.
Do you have room to build a garage?

If you have a drive you could stick it in a car tent James?

Good luck with the move by the way.

Hi James,

As you know I recently waved goodbye to my GS. The chap I bought her off included a car cover which I never used and I'm pretty sure it's still in my garage. Not sure what condition the cover is in, but if it's alright you can have it at no cost. Will dig it out for you at the weekend.

As for rented garages, they tend to be tiny. Have my old Alfa Spider in one and that's fine as cars were much smaller in those days, but it's still tight. If it were me I'd be happier having my baby on the driveway rather than a mile or two away - your GS will be fine on the drive, I promise. A 70s rust bucket is a different matter (!)

Will be in touch at the weekend. PM me if I forget!
