Mouse In Wiring Loom Trauma

Retrieved the Granturismo from winter storage last weekend and found a couple of warning lights on - EML (Lambda sensors), Parking Aid not available & Alarm not available. I assumed the battery had got a bit low at some point and befuddled the ECU, but when I took it in to have it checked out, I found out that I have had a small furry squatter who has feasted on one of the wiring looms (can't remember which side, but I don't suppose that matters much).

Just waiting to hear what the damage will be for replacement (too far gone for repairs apparently, so it will need a new loom fitted on the damaged side).

First car I've ever owned new enough to have a manufacturer's warranty, and I get stitched up by a rodent - bugga!

No, not covered by warranty - its possible that it might be covered by insurance, but this case is complicated by the fact that the car was under the storage facility's insurance from December through to the end of March, and I have no real idea if the mouse took up residence before or during storage. I believe House Insurance has also been successfully claimed against for this kind of damage, but that is also likely to be complicated by the question of where the car was when it was damaged.

I reckon the chances are the mouse took up residence in the Autumn, when the car was on my drive and has been chewing on the wiring while its been in storage.

If its a couple of grand, I can swallow it but I'm a bit worried it will be significantly higher than that, so might have to start exploring the insurance options.

Nah, just get an auto electrician to repair the loom, TBH I would do it myself, these things happen and if its just a 'bit of a nibble' cut them out and resolder and heat shrink.

Even for a pro your looking at no more than £100

This.

I had a recording studio sound guy come to my house and repair an HDMI cable that is sunk into a wall. HDMI is made of 19 tiny cables, none of which are colour coded or follow any standard whatsoever. If that can be done, I agree with Matt that a chewed loom should be repairable.

The dealer is making a video of the damage and getting back to me with a quote. They have said it is beyond repair due to the extent of the damage - I understand that its sometimes wise to take this with a pinch of salt, so may well take your advice and seek a second opinion.
At the very least, it might be better off at an Indy rather than a Main Dealer

So the dealer has smeared it with marmite and given his dog a go at it prior to taking the pics then :)

I must admit, there was a sound of chomping in the background while I was waiting - I just assumed it was someone's birthday and they were all eating cakes.

I feel you pain - had this on a DB7 parked on my drive.
Mice took out some of the loom and were living in the bonnet soundproofing!
Cost me around £800 to get sorted.

That was 6 years ago and I still have bait traps in the hedges near the cars !!

Hope you get sorted without too much trouble

And a mouse with big balls that lives in the larder and eats dog biscuit!

We had mice briefly when we moved in and left the back door open while I defrosted the condensate pipe. I suspect they may have been present prior to that as I hid Mrs Catman's Chocolate Orange stocking filler in the eaves and found very little but some foil and droppings.

Then the cats 'came home'......

We had mice in the Cinquicento when in storage. It wouldn't start, nest in the air filter box! They only ate the insulation from the battery live cable, replaced that and all was good.
