MOT failure

So it was MOT time for the QP & whilst I wasn't expecting it to pass first time I certainly wasn't prepared for the extent of the failure!

So I collect the car & read the failure:

A discoloured bulb on the rear, easy fix & could happen to any car of any age.
Front brake imbalance, OK so a clean & grease up should do as it has been standing for a long time before I bought it.
Corrosion on the front, WHAT! NO! Oh well, it is old enough I suppose.
Corrosion on the rear, WHAT! MORE? NO! Bugger! Oh well I am doing the front, lets do that bit too.
Exhaust leaking gas, hmmm this had a new back box fitted recently.......hmmmm????

Then I saw the extent of the work.........

Hi bud, don't take this the wrong way if you did that welding, BUT get it cut out and redone that is horrendous
Check the under body aswell the rust in the arches looks like its going to spread fast so when you get the welding redone and the other rust sorted get the underbody stripped and resealed it should prevent the new work getting infected.

I might be wrong, but that doesn't look like a new back box to me. Is it a QP IV or V?

The brakes were replaced with new discs & pads on the front, pads are the same as a BMW 840ci!

That just left the exhaust so I rang Torqueflow in Birmingham & they sorted my system out:

It's done now, not doing any of that again!

Not too sure, there are two boxes up front which I think are the cats. Then a centre box that joins both pipes in & out which I think is the cross pipe/box/section? Then 2 more boxes which I think are the resonators before the final 2 boxes right at the back which I think were the silencers.

I think...?

Leaking ..... Yes that's an understatement... Is that a mid box ?

It's a 99my & the previous MOT was in Ireland. No previous or old MOT's to check against.

When I bought it I did wonder how a car of this class has no previous receipts or certificates, but I bought with the heart NOT the head. At the time I thought how bad could it get?

I just found out!

What's the age/miles of the car? What advisories on previous MOTs?
