MC shift clutch

Hi All,

Looking to come back to the Maserati fold.
I’m in the final stages of securing a deal on a 2013 MC shift in Grigio Granito with 37.8k miles.
Ive spoken to the previous owner who informs me the car is a minter, with only one fault in his ownership… the clutch, he was told by a specialist it was on the original clutch and 79% worn, which was why the car was dropping into neutral, although not slipping.
I mentioned this to the dealer whom immediately showed me an invoice that he paid having taken the car to greypaul, where they cleared and updated software and performed a relearning cycle. The car apparently drives as it should, they told him the clutch is 56% remaining. The invoice however doesn’t show the clutch wear and greypaul won’t tell me as I’m not the owner.
Original clutch at 38k miles sounds like imminent replacement?
Has anyone else had similar experiences, I gather the reads aren’t great as I had this on my F430.
its not a deal breaker, I am fully aware this is the mileage where brakes and suspension may also need replacement

Mine went at 38k ironically. It kept popping out of gear and then went completely.

It went 2 week after I had bought the car. The dealer (ADG Sevenoaks) replaced it under warranty.

Suggest you consider changing input shaft bearing (spigot/pilot bearing), throwout bearing (does Hill Engineering make one for the 2013 MC Shift?) and the F1 clutch position transmitter at the same time, and you closely check the two bearings in the bell housing...

Change it all.

Some interesting notes about clutches

All the bearings, flywheel etc are the same with the exception of the clutch pack itself in GT/QP/4200

The GT/QP have one number

4200 has a different number

4200 clutch is £1k

GT/QP clutch is £1400

The QP runs the same engine and box as a 4200

A year or so back the QP had a different number at £1100 from the GT now they are the same

The GT clutch is denoted as “double tang”

So I believe that all clutches between models will be interchangeable.

GT clutches consistently last 45k miles

4200 clutches more like 25~30k miles

So the question would be, would you put a cheap clutch in a GT and then get 25-30k miles out of it for a £400 saving or probably of more interest, spend an extra £400 on a 4200 and get 45k miles out of it with the GT clutch

I suppose someone has to be the guinea pig?

Lets do the maths:

30k miles for 1k = 3.3333p a mile
45k miles for £1400 = 3.1p mile

but add in changing bearings and labour I think it's worth doing the GT clutch
