Please note that when JC Top Gear tested the 4200 it was an early production car. It should be stated that as the car aged various improvement were made to the flappy paddle gearbox and handling.

I think Clarkson missed the raison d'etre of the 4200 which was always intended as a cross Continent GT rather than a track car. Remember that for those who want better handling it is relatively easy to setup the 4200 to handle more like the Gransport. I have driven the 4200 and loved it........ once again JC gets it wrong or wants to make silly contraversial statements for the sake of good telly.

HEHEHEH another one to add to the watchometer , must have seen it and a couple of earlier one by Jeremy and May a dozen times if not more , still keeps me avidly watching and thinking how lucky i am , really enjoy Clarkson but he is a plonker where the 4200 and Paddle shift is concerned , whats he think we all do everday roll up to our garages when parking and just hit the brakes with our finger crossed

Truth is if you re watch the early 4200 video clip , its quite obvious that he hasn,t listened to who ever was instructing him on the paddleshift operation , he was probably so full of his own waffle that he didnt hear the part that you need to have ones foot planted firmly on the brake in neutral to be able to select a gear , its by sheer accident that after a minute of fruitlessly flicking paddles to no avail that you see his foot hit the brake and all of a sudden a gear drops in and he acts surprised what an eeeediot because it was likely obvious that he had screwed up on camera to all that had been part of the filming he childishly starts to slag off the car and its paddle operation ,

Well all i can say is that 8 years after that first Top gear video , thousands of coupe and gransport owners are to this day and everyday proving him wrong just goes to prove Maserati owners are a cut above the rest

I am dying to find that first Video guys. Cannot seem to find it on youtube. does anyone know where it resides(on you tube ) or which episode of top gear did they test the first 4200 coupe? I have an early production US 4200 and would like to see JC blurb his BS on it ::)

It's on series 1 episode 8.
Don't think it's on YouTube at the moment though tried looking for it myself.

Never tire of wtaching that..The GS looks so good on even in blue........I will say though that the 2002 4200 CC was not perfect and the gear box came in for some stick in the press and not just on TG...The thing was that it was not as good as some of the others at the time and thats something that Maserati put right over the years........

Yes, that performance is well known over here. Clarkson savaged the car and we feel unfairly.

Thankfully the hamster put things right with his review of the GranSport.
