Maserati invited a few motoring people to a secret showing of a 'new' potential sports car last night in London. Turned out to be a 5.0 V8 engined SUV, engine from Alfa Romeo...

Still hoping they have secretly tooled up to build Alfieri starting next year.

Interesting so a Levante with the 5.0 litre or something else?

On the US forum someone has mentioned that US production has also now stopped so Modena is going to be pretty quiet soon. If they do a quick job of putting out effectively a Ghibli Coupe then things could move to fill the space pretty quickly.

That'll be the Stelvio... 5 litres is a bit much, surely that would eat into Maserati's market.

Think it was engine from Alfa rather than car. So that could mean that the V6 from the Giulia is a possibility for future Maseratis. Or at least a variant of it.

Dunno Bob - I wasn't there, it's just second-hand information, but directly from a chap who was actually there. I can't imagine there being another SUV body coming from Maserati.

Thank.Think I would feel disappointed if I had turned up and all it was for was putting a V8 in the Levante. Nice enough idea but send me an e-mail.

Quite. He'd been lured in with the promise of seeking views on a 'secret new sportscar from an Italian manufacturer'. I wouldn't have gone to see a V8 installed either.

A 5.0l V8 seems a little retrograde. Ok for the US market but Maserati have just got a new 3.8l V8 in the QP so why not put that in the SUV? It'll be smaller, lighter, and probably better on emissions etc.

That said if it means that there is a new NA V8 that has to be a good thing :D
