Hi all,

First of all, I wanted to thank you all in this forum for the great source of information you are for newbies like me.

After more than 3 years scouring the Swiss market, I recently acquired a 2005 (facelift) Maserati 4200 Coupé GT, 6 speed manual, in grigio Nuvolari with cuoio inside and only 25'000km.

I am based in Switzerland but took the car to Spain (where I am from) for the winter season. I drove 1200km non stop and it was flawless! I am simply mad about the car, it's above and beyond any expectations....it's my first Maserati but had other sports cars, mainly german, but nothing compares to this beauty.

I would need your advice on the CAR ALARM
The car was not driven for almost 20months and the battery had died. When I took the car to the Maserati official dealer in Switzerland to be inspected, I replaced the battery and as soon as the key was inserted in the ignition the alarm was going off continuosly. The official dealer asked for CHF 3500/ GBP 2800 (!) to repair the alarm or CHF 1500/ GBP 1200 (!) to disconnect it, and they recommended to disconnect it.
I took the car to an independent mechanic and he disconnected the fuse of the alarm. The car drives impeccably but can't use the central locking from the car key (which does not disturb me) and I need to open and close the car with the key. The alarm signal on the dashboard is flashing red all the time.Other than this all in the car works perfectly including all other electronics
What would you recommend? Repair the alarm system? Disconnect it? Others?

Thanks again!

First thing:
Double click the lock / unlock button near the car. It can happen that they get out of sync. The dealer should know this, but.....it might fix your problem
If this doesn't work with either key, then you can look at getting the alarm unit reprogrammed. I think Abacus in the UK do this service.

Sounds like a sensor fault or bad earth somewhere. I'd try a battery disconnect for 10 mins first and see if the "reboot" puts it all back in sync, as well as the illustrious Catman's suggestion. If not, take it to an auto electrical specialist. Worse case, bin the factory alarm and install an aftermarket, high quality system from Clifford, Cobra, Scorpion or similar.

Hi Daniel

Welcome along. It was great speaking to you last week and a great story of how you came about buying it. I hope the above advice works for you.......Let me know!!
And thanks for photo's of your new love. Your car looks superb (but then I would say that)!!!
Before anyone else asks, it is the norm. now for new members to post photo's of their car. I know you couldn't load them up last week as you said, the problem now seems to be fixed.
