Good morning folks, I am the new owner of D-52M-S, Loz's old car so I am back in the 4200 fold. Unfortunately I have got an intermittent CEL which is telling me I have a bank 1 rear lambda sensor fault p0036/$11 I now also have an emissions MOT failure with 8 days left to fix it. I have done the usual things i.e. clean the lambda and the connections to no real avail. The next step was to swap the connection from the bank 1 lambda with the bank 2 lambda. Unfortunately the fault stayed on the bank 1, which means that its the issue is further up the chain back to the ECU. I have traced the wires up the back of the engine block but not 100% sure where the 6 cables go from there. There is some connectors in a row under the plenum at the back if that is where they terminate ? Any pointers greatly appreciated?

Hi again all. I have changed out the lambda 2 bank 1 and the CEL has gone, however the live data is showing a lot of fluctuation in voltage 0.1-0.7 but only when the car has warmed up. Took the car for testing - it now passes on lambda but fails on CO. Next step was changing out the air filter, a BMC which had almost disintegrated due to rust the old unit was completely rotten which I don't think was helping matters at all, and the plugs have also been replaced - a set of four coils for bank 1 is next on the theory that they are failing when hot. After that I am going to have to give up unless anyone has further ideas?

The lambda fluctuation is correct, that should happen in closed loop once the car is warmed up. It’s how it monitors and adjusts mixture.

If it’s just failing on CO, it could be cats. To start with are they still there?
