might have taken a bit of time but she is fully sorted so worth the wait!
phil identified what the problem was. seems at some point in her past she had a similar problem of losing oil out of the back of the gear casing where it joins the shaft only rather than replace the gasket like they should have some bodger had just put some sealant at the join! was only a matter of time before it went and guess brunty was the last straw for the old girl. luckily because I did not drive her far I did not do any damage internally, so a new gasket, bolts and gearbox service and she is back to her usual top performing self...........to be dry tomorrow so order is wash, quick polish and out:excellent:

Super news Greg..!! Our AC had leaks from the main seal and the pump on the gearbox, so all new seals, filter and top up with new lube, good as new, but not inexpensive..!!

Great news, Greg. Especially good to hear it sounds a relatively inexpensive repair after all the hassle of getting home. Also horrible to hear that somebody has bodged a job rather than repair properly, these sort of people really p1ss me off!

Great news Greg. Nice to be back in the seat and still have a few quid left in the bank! Enjoy the rest of the weekend, wishing you dry roads and tight bends!

Enjoy it Greg; horrible to find an old bodge like that.... Reminds me of my old MkIII Cortina that was held together with sellotape and under sealer in parts!

you are so right mark. for the sake of what? £50 maybe for a gasket, someone took a chance with god knows how many grand to fix a busted gearbox when it goes wrong. can find no record in all the papers of a gearbox leak fix which is not surprising really since all the services have been done by known reputable maserati specialists so either a self fix by a previous owner or a cheap fix before punting on by a mechanic with no morals and an eye on the quick buck.
phil has been over the rest of her mechanics and found no other "sticky tape" jobs so looks like this was the sole bodge thankfully. just goes to show, even with tons of reputable history you never really know a car's full history.

Enjoy her Greg, you both deserve a good run out..!!

we had a ball robert. done the route right round loch ness stopping at Fort Augustus for a light refreshment. as ever, the north side was quiet of tourists whilst the south road super busy.........as someone who loves driving I never understood this since they both take you to FA, take roughly the same time and the north road is such a good driving road but all the tourists go via drumnadrochit (to see nessie probably!) leaving the north road for petrol heads like me:numberone:
