Think this relates back the crash last Xmas:, dont know why its top news at the moment.

A 61-year-old man who had been warned by his wife that he was going to kill himself if he kept driving his sports car too fast, died after he overtook two cars on the A5 and lost control of his vehicle.

Business consultant Nigel Howse, of The Green, Nether Heyford, bought his “dream” car, a black Maserati Coupe G, three years before he died in a crash near Fosters Booth at about 8.20am on December 28.

An inquest at Northampton General Hospital heard yesterday that Mr Howse’s wife, Carole, had told him to slow down when he was driving as he was in danger of killing himself.

The inquest heard evidence from the drivers of two cars which Mr Howse had overtaken shortly before he lost control of his Maserati, which spun 360 degrees and then crashed into a tree. The car ended up on its roof.

Sharon Joynes, who was driving her Ford Fiesta towards Towcester, said she heard a “deep roaring sound” and then saw the Maserati overtake using the extra middle lane in the road.

Alexandra Wright, who was a passenger in a Volvo being driven by her husband, said the Maserati overtook the car at a speed she believed was faster than appropriate.

Pc Shay Herbinson, a collision investigator, said he believed the crash had happened because Mr Howse had accelerated harshly to complete the overtaking manoeuvre and was travelling at a speed which was inappropriate for the conditions.

County coroner Anne Pember, recording a verdict of accidental death, said: “Mr Howse was doing what he loved doing, driving his Maserati. His wife had to tell him on a number of occasions not to travel so fast. He was overtaking the two cars and enjoying himself but was driving inappropriately.”

To be fair Matt we all do it and its by the grace of who ever your God is that we get away with it or not.
Still very sad for all concerned.

In the news as it is the inquest that is all. Still a sad tale and a tad sobering.

Yeah...all so sad, to be frank guys, I only truly plant the right foot in dry conditions ( Marios can't believe how little wear there is on my front pads....;).....).....and in very light traffic........I don't own the road, I try to read traffic conditions early and well....I don't want to visit pain, anguish and grief on anyone purely through my own selfishness.....be careful out there guys

I presume we have just had the inquest?

A lot of people would say that this sort of car is going too fast if it overtakes them when their own speed is 40mph on a clear A road and/or there is a sports exhaust fitted. Very sad however you look at it.

Suffice to say....20mph on ice is too fast...............150mph on a dry road with no traffic....pretty safe..........98% of public pretty clueless about supercars and how to drive them

The problem with taking statements from members of the public is that one man's fast is another man's normal etc etc.

Well if mechanical failure was ruled out sounds like it was too fast for the conditions. IIRC it was a damp day and crossing white lines in those conditions is always a gamble if you're hitting to much gas or brakes.

After my incident I drive like miss daisy now.

True, Bob. Our cars can sound like an inbound missile even at Miss Daisy speeds. Especially Benny's.

There have been two high profile Maserati deaths over here years ago....in both incidents, either alcohol or poor judgement/control the main contributors in the drivers deaths

A reminder that we are all mortal and driving our cars requires us to remember that we have a responsibility, if not to ourselves then certainly to our families. I am not impressed when I hear someone say that they got their Maserati up to some dumb speed. We can all do that if we want to disregard other road users and risk not just our own lives but that of others too.

If you feel the urge to prove yourself and your car then reserve it for the track
