Luca made it clear in an interview yesterday that Ferrari are proud to make the engines for his sister company Maserati and that in doing so they can together develop the next generation of high performance fuel efficient motors.

He went on to say they are cutting production in the face of higher demand to preserve the values of the marque.

A pity Maserati don't think that way but you can see the thinking behind their game plan......new sales assured as long as the Ferrari connection is well published and riding on the back of that is Alfa who's openly boasting that the 8C and more importantly the 4C is made at Modena by Maserati, the well stated sister company of Ferrari.......clever or what?

Well said..Nowdays -after biturbo era- Maserati produces reliable cars. This was all Luca's decision. So, what could be better than beeing two marques (or three) sharing same parts, reliability etc. with all him beeing all behind...?

Maserati will alwas now be associated with Ferrari which isn't a bad thing. The move to push Maserati under the Alfa unbrella was not the best move but apart from the 4C not really seen much of the sharing going on. But we do know that the Ghibli will give its platform to the new Alfa 4 doors.

Seen early pictures of that and it's a stunner particularly with the V6 twin turbo

Wow BJL you have a California! No offence but I'm truly hoping these suffer massive depreciation in the next 3 years so that I can afford one!

911s are awesome too, i've had several. For the ultimate, grab a 993 turbo before the hit £100k. You will never sell it.

I don't........and agree about the 993 turbo but not being a Porsche purist I do prefer the later cars. They don't try to kill you so often.

Back in 2002 I bought one of the first 4200 to arrive in the UK (a CC cabrio) and received a letter from Luca asking what I thought. I replied saying it was wobbly and not a patch on the 355 spyder I'd traded it in for. I didn't hear back!

The lesson I learned then was never to buy a brand new, hot off the press, Maserati. Wait for them to bring out the ammended, better, mark 2. It may well be better now, but that experience of 2002 still means that I always wait 2 years after launch before buying the "new" model. Sorry Luca - but it was your fault for launching an unresolved car too early.
