Desirable blue and pretty much perfect (full leather) interior if you prefer lighter colours. New clutch and brakes. I don't think you'll ever be be able to buy a full leather blue car with a decent history and new clutch for something in the low twenties. The private blue car with tech cloth that was around last month for that sort of money sold very fast.

Just realised that was an 04 so quite an early example. That would have been up for £20k-£22.5k actually last year.

£20k is nonsense. I sold a 2004 GranSport with less spec, tech cloth and over 70k miles for £20k this time last year.

Why is everyone so determined to talk the prices of these cars down? They're obscene value right now compared to so many other cars out there. F355s at £100k+ even 348s at over £40k and words like 'overpriced' are used when a 4200/GS is priced in th high £20ks! WTF?!

Is there not any warranty cover on your recent issues? Or as clutch is classed as consumables/wear/tear?

Not sure clutch would be covered - it ran out in Jan/Feb and I failed miserably in renewing for £1k with a provider..... Its life.....From some of the research I have done and chatting to others those tangs can give up anytime, Marios said the main problem with mine was the release bearing sticking.

I would agree, I was looking at a GS as a replacement after selling the AC last year. There are not many out there, and prices ranged from 25k to 30k and upwards at the time. If anything they are stronger now. I also looked in Europe as the exchange rate was favourable at the time, and if anything they are more expensive there, although there does seem to be more "ropey" examples.

Read my post MAF I said it would have been up for £20k-£22.5k LAST YEAR. Not this year. I think the values are more accurate now than last year and am agreeing with you ;)

I don't think we will see nice facelift 4200's or any reasonable GS's dipping sub-£20k like they did a year or so ago. I think those days are gone. Only the not so good ones may dip that low now.

I am in full support of bolstering & boosting values....why would I not be! I own one!!

I contacted the seller of the 118000 Euro AC out of curiosity, he said he did it for provocation! He was/is looking for high 40s for it.

Thanks, I read and understood your post. I gave a reference of a lower spec, much higher mileage car that I sold for £20k last year - it was the cheapest GS for sale in the country by a long way. This blue car or any of a similar spec, condition and mileage would have been up for notably more than you suggested.

If this car was being sold by Dickie Grace at this price, I'd probably think it broadly fair. I just think it's a bit high for a private sale. I'd agree that the days of a sub £20k GS are gone (other than for a project car perhaps). The colour combination definitely works in it's favour.

Great idea - I'll start a new thread for this as I have often thought it would be good to have an indicative price index.

I have a spreadsheet with the majority of GS that have been for sale on Pistonheads and Autotrader for the past few years on it. I obviously don't know what the final selling price of the car was but it gives a decent idea.

Fair point, although I would say if private sellers provide an indie inspection report to show a clean bill of health then I wouldn't have an issue buying at the higher price bracket. A dealer's price will include a 3/6 month warranty inflating the price by between £1k-£1.5k.

When I bought mine, because I had an independent inspection done which showed no issues and reported a very good car, I negotiated about £1.2k off the price.

I guess this doesn't work for some but it worked well for me.

I presume the reversing sensors are visible on the bumper, perhaps the original owner wanted cleaner lines.

As for values and worth, the car it only worth what someone it willing to pay for it. Obviously they will get much cheaper this year and next, then rocket in value once I buy one right? ;-)

You can always hope. ;) and yes the sensors are visible.

I might be talking about the year before then actually. I watched GS & 4200's for sale & sold like a hawk for a year leading up to buying my 4200. I bought my 4200 just over a year ago.

I could have bought several GS's at way less than £20k. Cheapest one I knew of that sold private was £16k. There were a few that were sold circa £16k at that time. I think that would have been 18-24 months ago. I could have had a trade deal on a GS last year at less than £15k as well. I think the values bottomed that year. Last year they moved north a bit and this year are showing signs of moving that further north as well. All good, needed and rightly so.
