Lotus and Maserati, why?

I've noticed that there are quite a few Maserati owners that have either had a Lotus in the past or still have one.

Is there any particular correlation or reason behind this pairing?

Good observation Dan... Not sure what the answer to that one is. I think maybe you buy a Lotus with your heart and there is that history and passion with the marque and owners....not everyone get them and would buy a Boxster over a Lotus. Think it is the same with Maserati...you get the history, passion of the marque. When I had the string of Lotus I knew I would have a Maserati one day even though it was a totally different type of car.

Maseratis look and sound great but are a bit heavy. A Lotus doesn't look or sound great but is very light. Between them you've got a lot of bases covered! I reckon a QPV and an Exige would be close to the perfect (and achievable) double garage.

Okay, they are not beautiful. I do like the agressive look of an Exige though. And a Mas is a bit more comfortable than a Lotus.

Because they are both great pieces of engineering and we appreciate that? Just a thought! :D

Maserati and Lotus are cars that are both bought by people who don't follow the crowd.

and my 340R sounds pretty mental!

I have always liked and felt an affiliation for both the Lotus and Maserati marques.

Another interesting one, when I first bought my Bora there were I think two other UK Bora owners who also owned Sunbeam Tigers.....

Apart from the Esprit, they don't IMHO.

I don't think the plastic body adds to it either, I get the reason but it comes across a poor quality.

Thankfully the engineering behind them stacks up and I get the lightness thing.

Eight happy years with my Elise prior to the Maserati.
My dad had a new Excel in the 80's and up to a few years ago an Esprit S4s, that my sisters partner now runs.

Interesting thoughts so far. I think they make great stable mates as between them all bases are covered.

Also the sentiment that starting off with a relatively left field motor like a Lotus draws you to other more left field marques perhaps.

I would do a Lotus but could never fit in!

I'm 6'4" and never had a problem, and I was a couple of stone heavier back then too!

I agree with that.

I concur!

I first considered a Cayman and went for an Exige and the second time around I considered a 911 and went for the GTS!

Porsches, though lovely cars, are far too common and lack the wow / scarcity factor, unlike Lotus and Maserati that set themselves apart.

It's likely that my next car will be German however!

Guess we all see something different but always loved the look of my two Exige....

Had more presence than the Maserati....OK one car in your face and one more classic....

I went from the mrk2 Exige to the 3200....Then from the 3200 to the Toxic frog........So went both ways....

And my Toxic Frog Sport160 used to turn as many heads as any car I've owned........May have been the colour as well though...
