Kenny,
Sounds reasonable however be aware that if the third party insurers do not accept liability (and it wouldn't surprise me that the van driver has not even reported it yet) that it could take several weeks of them chasing their insured (van man) to even get a response never mind a statement from him.
Whilst you have the benefit of solicitors under your legal expenses policy and they will make all the correct posturing noises about threatening to sue, in practice they tend not to be in any great hurry.
The problem they have under the small claims court system is that even if/when they win they are at the mercy of the court as to how much, if any, of their expenses they can recover.
Their potential costs of pursuing the action could easily exceed the amount being claimed.
A big personal injury claim is very attractive to them but a £2k repair is not.
My advice is give it a week or two but if any signs of stalling in any camp take the bull by the horns and start the action yourself. You might find the solicitors are quite happy to let you do the leg work and assist with the form filling. You will make a recovery ok as long as you keep up the pressure.
And I was in seeing Phil last week as well. Popular place!
