All,

Am looking for a cheap runabout, had a Toyota Aygo, but doing work on the house so needed to release the cash in the ickle car. Missus has a Audi A4 Cab, but she won't part with it so I had to give up the Aygo..dammitt!! Have about £1k to lash out on something miserable, will be using it in winter in conjunction with my m.bike to get to Slough from Woking every day so cheap & small engined & inconspicuous is what I am looking for so when I get back in the Maser it feels like a rocket ship!

Have spent an entire day looking on auto-trader, because everyone who had a modicum of cash has traded in their cars under the government scrappage scheme I can't find anything.... only other option is to go to Blackbushe & have a punt.

Cheers

Ian

if you could stretch your budget a little lets say to about 1500-2000 you could bet a merc or bmw diesel, reliable and economical.

My 'other' drive is a Kia Picanto.
Bit like a go-cart, and cheapest car on the market - I got mine new last year for 4.5K with the scrappage deal.
Not sure how much 2nd hand ones go for but they've gotta be cheap!

ps - sadly, the stereo is better than the Auditorium 200 in my GS

Am along the lines of a Fiat Punto (as Andrew says) / Focus 1.6 / Peugeot 206 etc, I think the BMW / Merc would cost as much in insurance & tax so they are non starters, max engine size of 1.6, but more likely no more then a 1.4, unfortunately I've been tagged at £1k, she says the Maser goes or I stick to budget.....

I drive around in an old ( 2000) ssangyong korando. bought it for 900 quid. its got a 2.8 merc deisel in it which I think can pull the QE II.
takes a coulple of days to get up to motorway speeds. I striped out the back seats and now use it for dogs, tools, trips to the tip just about everything except Ros really.
great tool.
I think it will live forever.
saw one last week on auto trader for 450 but the imobiliser is F***ed so wont start, was going to buy it for spares.

What about the classifieds in your local paper?
There always seems to be a reasonable collection of cheap cars in the Essex Chronice.

Pop down to your local small car garage, Ford, Fiat, Mazda etc...ask them if they have any PX for trade and take one off their hands...lots of old cars PX after the scrappage schem will just be sent off to Auction or the scrappers...this way you get it off their hands and save yourself a few£££££

No not the ones for scrappage, but as it has stopped now there are lots of cars being PX with little or no value even as scrap since the second hand metal prices fell...you will see abandond cars again soon as we used to see 3-4 years ago
