looking for a 3200 ABS faulty module

I'm looking at sourcing an alternate bosch abs unit to fit the 3200.
To do that I must first get my hands on a 3200 abs unit that I can open and fiddle around.

The unit seems to be a standard bosch unit with specific settings and software for the 3200

If someone has a faulty abs module lying around that wants to sell it, please pm me with the price and failure of the module.

Sorry, when I meant blue one, I was referring to a 3200 and not an ABS unit. One came up for £5750 classified ad. It had the ABS light on (which I assumed to be a faulty pump rather than something simple). I was really tempted even though it looked a bit of a dog. Sold in a couple of days.

After looking at the unit it looks very, very similar to the v.a.g one in a Passat or Golf of about 2001/2 . If the recon guys at BBA and such like can repair the v.a.g units surely they should be able to take on a bosch maserati unit - it looks like they both fail with the same symptoms.

I think they can only fix the common failure of the broken internal wires.
Water ingress will probably corrode the chips/board beyond repair

Abs module

I have gone though two abs modules. Various people promised that the can fix them including BBA but on both I cations I ended up getting another... The problem with mine was that the abs asr light occasionally came on due to a rear phonic wheel issue and eventually it came on and stayed on! After that point the unit would not communicate with the diagnostics. So I think- in my case at least it's the comms module inside the ECU that's gone. As far as I know Phil mine did not have water in them.

Hi bill, I got your voicemail but was abroad with work at the time. Just landed so will call you later. I had mine connected to an SD2/3 to read the Error Code on the ABs module as the ABS and ASR light are on constant and the result of the test was "ECU ERROR".

The unit itself is a Bosch 5.3 unit which is used in alot of cars but the software inside these units is specific for the car, weighing, braking etc. so it is essential that the right hardware and software are running. I have a contact at a repair company so will send mine off for them to try to rework. From making enquiries to other companies they informed me that water ingress was the most common issue with ones which couldn't be fixed. When you look at the location of the ABS module on a 3200 you see where it is right underneath the turbo bonnet vent and it's no surprise they suffered from water ingress. I will be modifying the area around it to prevent any further water damage.

Mine did not fail as a result of phonic wheel issues and I don't beleive it was water ingress . If I recall I think I had got a very flat battery over the winter months and when battery had been recharged the light came on and would not go out . I see your point re software and that it contains specifics about the vehicle but surely the actual design and manufacture of the hardware must be the same ? meaning that a repair could be effected by someone if water damage is not the culprit .

Yes I think everything is repairable if it is something like a dry joint or component level fault. I know Mike Roberts has these reconditioned ECU's and seels them at £999 plus fitting which compared to the Maserati price of £2700 is actually quite reasonable. It's just parting with a grand though that hurts!

If you are only replacing the controller and not the hydraulic assembly, you can get it from eurospares for 1200 pounds

Yes the pump is fine on mine is is the ECU part which has gone bad. Still a lot of a Bosch part. Will see what comes up with this repair company.

No probs phil. As for my abs, there was no issue with water. Both times it went the errors previous to the constant "no abs asr" was always the nearside rear wheel sensor. After the last time I replaced the rear phonic wheel and the abs ECU and haven't had issues since (one of the teeth had corroded away!) From what I understand, the ECU of the unit works fine but because it is unable to communicate with the rest of the systems it stops working and it can't be interrogated either..! I don't know if the issue is the same with others

I have guys that have repaired Audi and v.a.g units for me previously . Surely the components inside must be near identical and so repair would be the same (hopefully the price too as the work must be the same) . I will see if I can get any answers at the start of next week . Photo shows 1998 A6 unit on right and 3200 unit on left .
