I've been looking at GTS's for good few years but somehow always end up with Ger rivals (AMGs, RS's etc.). One that caught my eye recently and somethign that i'm likely to end up with is 3.8 GTS with great spec. It drives okay, interior is in pretty good nick but it has limited history and I noticed oil leaks on both cylinder banks (under the cover).

As I'm new to Maserati's I wonder what are the typical challenges that 3.8's suffer from? e.g. rocker cover i can deal with but i'm tad afraid of turbo's going bust or perhaps other more challenging issues such as rod bearing etc.

Thanks and I look fwd to your feedback!

Welcome to the Forum and a great choice of car. Likewise I’ve been keeping an eye on the Mk VI QP GTS over the past couple of years as they are a tempting proposition. I’m far from an expert on the model, but haven’t heard any horror stories or known major mechanical issues. This could be because of the small number sold and as yet not old enough to have suffered from a
lack of maintenance or abuse.

Compared to an M157 AMG I think you’ll be fine (famous last words). However, the M157 is a fantastic engine provided you’re aware of the potential issues. I loved both of mine….
