From MSN. (sorry if already posted)

"Maserati boss Harald Wester has overruled an earlier decision only to sell the diesel Levante SUV in the UK and has confirmed the Ferrari-built petrol V6 will now be sold in Britain.

What's more, it may even be ready in time for the car's UK launch in October.

Unlike in other markets, Maserati initially decided only the 3.0-litre V6 diesel Levante would be offered in the UK. Our large SUV market is unusual even in diesel-dominated Europe for its love of diesel: they account for 95% of sales.

But the appeal of a sporty luxury SUV with a Ferrari-built 430hp 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine is undeniable, said Wester – so overruled the marketing decision and kicked off the accelerated engineering programme currently underway

Maserati also sells a 350hp version of this engine but the extra draw of the range-topper – 0-62mph takes 5.2 seconds – means this is the version that will come to the UK

It still won't be a big-selling model, said Wester, but the halo effect is undeniable. “We can really benefit from the brand power of the Ferrari connection with this version.â€

This will offset any additional expense Maserati may incur, believes Wester: indeed, “we'll probably lose money on this version,†he admitted.

Maserati revealed UK diesel prices will start from around £53,000-£55,000 when ordering opens later in the year. It is too early to suggest how much the V6 petrol will cost but the price differential will likely be the same as for the Ghibli upon which the Levante is derived."

I wonder whether Harald is a member of the forum, or just a lurker? He's obviously been influenced.

They do read the forum then!

Harald, if you need a head of marketing (trust me you do) I am here and ready to get the brand back on track!

At last - they've realised that a Maserati is a purchase that relies, at least in part, on passion and not just mpg figures and residuals.

We'll see if it's true. The Maserati PR machine (if there is one) is more than a little prone to producing press of Daily Mail standards of correctness.

When I was in Como for the private preview of the Lusso FF back in Feb Ferrari introduced a person as the 'Forum monitor' who then went on to say 'the consensus suggests we should' etc etc. So there is no doubt they read the forum of their second largest market and must sometimes take heed of our pissedoffness.

For the record the QP is with me for life. I might even have it stuffed and mounted. Apologise for thread drift.

I see the Pistonhead reviews says...the below on the petrol engines this week....

'There's a strong hint we will get the petrol engines, but nothing is official yet'

I've just been invited to HR Owen's UK Levante launch in late May. I should have the opportunity to have a very good look over the car, but not sure if they're offering test drives.

EDIT: they will have a LHD car to see at the event, but no test drives. RHD cars will be in production post-summer and HRO will have a diesel demonstrator in September. They've already tried to get me to hand over £5k as a deposit....I've resisted!

See how many orders they have if you can. Hopefully maranello will have a launch party and I'll get something for my 5K deposit....

This has been having the best reviews I think I have ever read for a Maserati...Sounds like a great car....but I still cannot get past the styling...That rear three quarter view if just Porsche Cayenne.....Now that's not a bad thing as the Cayenne looks good but i just wanted more individuality from Maserati. Lovely inside mind you......Interested in your thoughts Mark once you see it in the flesh.
