Looking for a colour code or source to match the blue 90th anniversary spyder interior, small amount of wear on my drivers seat buttress.

Other than leatherique in the USA, anyone know a source in Europe for a match or code, maserati dealership haven’t been able to provide.

Thanks

If you contact any leather restoration company, they will match the colour using various swatches as the leather fades slightly in the sunlight.
The driver's buttress is always the first part to wear so recovering the whole seat is uneconomical but a upholsterer will change out this panel if he can find a match.
The alternative is using a filler but eventually this wears out too.

Don't worry about a colour code, find someone who is good at their job and get them to do the work. The video is just to give you an idea of what is involved. Leather work is a skill.

If it is a little repair there is no reason, with a bit of care, that you could do it yourself. If it is like the one in the video, get someone to do it.

As for the colour match, companies like Gliptone will match a colour to a sample or if you can find someone local take the car to them.

Kevin Baggs in Poole (near Emblem) touched in some colour fade on the driver's seat of my 4200. The colour match was absolutely spot on, and for not a lot of money. If you're further up country I'm sure there will be similar companies around.

Thanks guys... based just south of Dublin Ireland.... so unless on a long summer trip.. Poole not really an option for me , but I have heard of Kevin’s work...

It’s not bad at all, maybe if I send him a sun visor he might make a small batch of colour up?

Cheers

There are mobile guys who can do it, they usually colour match on site. I can’t recommend anyone over there but pop to the local posh car dealer in Dublin and see who they use.

I cut a tiny sample (1.5ish cm square from under the seat) and got a great colour match from an eBay supplier. Let me know if interested and I can send before and after photos and/or contact details

Good luck.

I used furniture clinic for my 3200 match. As nfm suggested, they wanted a small swatch. They do a range of products incuding a kit which has wverything you need, even a small spray gun and bottle of propellant

I have just refurbished a set of Spyder seats with colour matched dye from Furniture Clinic.

They were terribly worn and black showing through.

They now look like the day they came out the factory.

The most important part is to seal them correctly or it will just wear off again. I used semi Matt. It is almost too Matt but with an application of leather creme brings them up to oem finish.

I tent to mix in a bit off gloss sealer to lift them slightly.

Application, I use a spray gun set to 45 psi

Process:
Strip seat belts/controls
Steam clean
Leather prep - sponge
Ultra clean - sponge/cloth
3 coats of dye - spray
2 coats of sealer - spray
1 coat of leather creme - cloth
Reassemble

Time with drying: 8hrs

I followed the Leatherique process to restore the front seats in my GS this last summer.
The Australian distributor colour matched the dye to a 1 inch square sample I cut from behind the adjustment switches.
Process involved wet sanding back the current dye, with their product and re-applying dye with a brush in tight areas and cloth.
Many thin layers is the trick. The leather is now supple and looks fabulous.

A new satisfying skill. Very rewarding isn't it Matt?

The results are indeed amazing.

Ive been doing it for years to bolsters and other such areas but having the time to do a whole seat yields excellent results.

If you need any help, just pop down the workshop, happy to give you a half hour instruction to do it.

What are you going to use to spray it with?

Interesting, Gliptone ended trading last year I think it was. Looks like someone has bought up the name and pushing it down the dye route.

Must admit, the Gliptone leather cream is the best, love that smell.
