I had an eodb or oedb whatever ... And orange engine light come on last weekend but did 100 miles and no issue... As the steeering wheel blocked my view of it!

Anyway decided to do a battery off and on again.....

Problem gone. For now. But seems very odd that a reset fixes the issue....we will see?

Are these things 60% engine and 40% IT?

Switch it off and on again problem solved. ...... I think.

The engine light is usually just emissions related, I think. Resetting may just start the monitors where everything is back to a normal state and the scenario that caused it will light if up again. I have one that seems to come on every couple of hundred miles, reset & it goes away for a while.

Got it reset by Giallo after they checked it out & read the codes, but no issues seen.

I don't wholeheartedly agree with the 'just emissions' bit. I've had the CEL on for; clutch position sensor, left bank cam vario motor and secondary air system. None of which are emissions.

Some will reset themselves, some need the computer to reset them. Just depends on the reason for the fault.

You get engine lights on 4200s?!

And you were all laughing at 32 owners......

It does seem to go once you reset it unless it is serious....

I had one come on yesterday and the car drives fine. The paint shop will turn the battery off today so it should fix itself.

A CEL is produced for a reason. Something happenned to trigger the CEL. If a reset makes it go away i would still be concerned why it appeared in the first place. I agree that some of these things are gremlin related as our car's were wired by blind Italian children. If it does keep happening I recommend getting an OBDII reader so you can read it and then reset it so that you know what is triggering it.

You can tell he works in IT.. Always read the logs first before trying to fix anything!!! well said man...!! I agree totally..:thumb3:

You can clear the light with a battery reset, but the fault will be stored. As mentioned previously some are no more than "sensor out of parameter" type 'glitches', but equally as Benny mentions some are not, so it's worth keeping an eye on things and getting an SD reading if it comes back.

Thanks guys ...it's has cleared for now...but I will, as benny advises, get it checked out properly.....surely it can't be Off and On and it goes away just like a laptop?

Although I appreciate wired by blind Italian children.....and I drove it in the rain!! Which is when it came on.....

My other car is an Alfa 166, built in 1999, it is now 13 years old and has covered over 200,000KM, all without an electrical fault! How come a Maserati from the same period and no more complex than the Alfa has some many more problems? I wonder what they did right that Maserati forgot? Maybe their Italian children had glasses!

IME of both the 166 and the 4200, I'd suggest the 4200 is lots more complex, but I'm open to being proved wrong.
Also, my 166 had electrical issues (after I sold it, granted, to my Dad) one of the classic being (IIRC) the lights stopping working which requires a new ECU...
It was something like that anyway.
