Mine is on about 73k now, I think the engine etc will be fine for well over 100k, it will be the cost of replacing suspension components and such like that I'm sure will land me with some hefty bills. not too bothered about residual values though I must confess it helps justify the cost of maintenance knowing that it's still worth roughly what I paid for it even though I've added 20k(ish) miles

Spoke to Matthew an hour ago, they've managed to get a diag kit from someone, however, their original is still in Italy.
Shocking service even for Maserati. That's two months now!

I should get a definitive answer on mine this afternoon.

I agree, shocking indeed. Fingers crossed for tomorrow

It wouldn't surprise me.

If I were in Matthews shoes, I'd be more concerned about clients who may go elsewhere.

looks very nice, do like those interiors
I couldn't fault the car, it ticked all the boxes and everyone thought I was mad to sell her. As much as I love hot Audi's I think I did the right thing and I think you did too!...........Who was the Super Model owner before you? I can only think of Jodie Kidd, that will certainly lean in your favor when the time comes!

Stu

The Audi S and RS are great cars, great standard - found my old S4 which was same as your - immaculate but its been wrecked - lowered, big wheel, older interior

yep it was Jodie :) I didn't know it was her car at the time. contact Jodie who confirm and I got her autograph :)

The Philistine!!.......How could someone 'Halfordize' a quality car like that??!! Must of broke your heart to see that. One of the reasons I loved the car so much was it was subtle. Apart from the little S badges/chrome wing mirrors/Avus Alloys it looked like any other A4 until you leave them at the lights for dead.
Weirdly we just watched Stars in their Cars the other night to see the Jodie Kidd one as I thought it would be choker with Massers and was a bit disappointed that there was only a little bit and that showed her crashing one!!...............Still a great boast for you ;-)

took the car out for a drive over the weekend (been missing the driving) and noticed I'm hundred miles off the 70,000 miles.... minus the major issues I've had she been fantastic and drives great - hopefully more great years to come :)

its sad really that supercars are seen to be pass it when they hit 50,000 and even worse the closer to 100,000 - feel that I've just lost a lot more £££s on resale

my S4 I got when it had about 60,000 miles and was great, wasn't even worried about mileage. so why do a lot of people expect supercars that cost 3 times upwards to be pass it when they hit 50,000. should the cars not be better built therefore last just as long....

what supercar would you get, say 2012 with 20,000 miles and one service history or 2012 with 60,0000 and 6 service history...

_________

Good morning Gents,

I'm a newbie here and have been lurking for a while. Doing my research before taking the plunge and buying a Maserati. Once I have I'll update profile info., etc.. In the meantime, this being my first post, I hope I'm not asking too dum a question.

Firstly though, I'd like to say how impressive the forum members are for sharing their knowledge so willingly. Particularly as, in many cases I'm sure, such experience has been gained at a high price.

Okay, here goes, my question is "does age really matter?". Or rather mileage.
For example, does anyone have any thoughts about an 03 Spyder with nearly 100K on the clock.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201612290883669?make=maserati&model=spyder&logcode=p

Even if the SH stacks up, even if an inspection checks out, even if I can ignore my gut feeling, does a 4200 with this sort of mileage represent an undue risk?

I guess this is a length of string type question but if anyone is willing to share an opinion it would be greatly appreciated. It's the colours I really like but more than a little concerned by everything else.

Thanks in advance.

Morning! Bright and early for you isn't it :)

There have been many cases of 4200 cars going well over the 100k mark with no issues. I recall the highest we knew of had something like 140k

My old one had 90k on it if memory serves and it was one of the most reliable cars I owned. It's now in the safe keeping of Wack61 of this parish and having had a total respray is, to the best of my knowledge, going on strong.

There is a body of feeling that over 50k is valueless, but to me that's just rubbish. These cars are excellent value for money, and give a very high smiles per mile return. As they get older, there will invariably be more and more with higher mileages.

Check the wishbones, and suspension. Check the oil pump, plugged pollen filter and the heater matrix. Make sure it's got a good service or a good inspection and I don't think there's any more risk to be had here.

Advert is a bit light on that one though, although the car does look nice :)

Greetings Mr. CatmanV2 - likewise yourself. Although it's more of a late one hete if I'm being honest. Boo hiss.

Many thanks for your reply. It's appreciated. I've read many of your posts over the last few months and it's good to get your thoughts.

Even if you have complicated matters :). I was ready for any number of give it a Hattie Jacques sized wide berth. Actually, it is reassuring to know these cars can have long lives as my intention is to keep a car indefinitely. The resale value argument isn't an issue for me. Many thanks also for your guidance on potential issues.

A quick aside - I know your neck of the woods well. I worked at that awful insurance company by the train station many many moons ago. Again, boo hiss.

Ahh, I'm cheating. Out in SE Asia on business at the moment, so it's just past lunch o'clock here.

I didn't know there was an Insco in town. Just goes to show :)

Many others will be along shortly to add their views I'm sure :)

100k is leggy that's for sure even for a 2003 car but as C says it doesn't mean it's a bad car at all. Look at as many as you can and buy the best after a PDI from one of the specialists (£300 well spent will save you a few K in the future). Why buy a 100k car when there are a few out there with half that? :D

I don't give a feck about mileage, I buy cars to drive so as long as they are serviced and maintained well that's great

I'm with you on this, cars are meant to be driven! Mine just tripped over 84k. Never missed a service, done 8k miles every year of its life. I bought it at 68k 2 years ago, so it had already lost all its depreciation.

The quickest cars out there are the higher mileage ones and Im on my second.
Having driven quite a few low mileage beauty queens when working for the Dealer it was always nicer to get back in my own.
