I've finally taken the plunge

Hello everyone, I'm the proud new owner as of yesterday of a Grancabrio sport. I didn't ever want an Eldorado white one, but seeing it the flesh I fell in love. Then taking it out on the test drive and giving it 'the beans' - well what a noise.
Just in the process now of looking at aftermarket warranties. Any recommendations?

No idea about after market warranties, but welcome and nice choice, pictures would be good. You won't regret your purchase!

A big welcome to the forum Sion and what a car you have bought...Don't forget to post some pictures when you get chance as we would love to see your Maserati.

Welcome, Sion. I had a platinum one from Warranty Wise when I bought my car and it was brilliant. Highly recommended.

As an alternative to a warranty, you could build a war chest for those times as you need to.
I recently elected Not to renew a Warranty Direct policy out at a cost of £1600 p.a.
It depends on your financial circumstances, the car itself and where you would get repairs attended to.
Just another thought..........................

That had been one of my initial thoughts. The policy is one of those things you hope you never need, but if something does go wrong what will be the cost, most likely more than policy cost. However the savings over a couple of years would go some way to the war chest.

Yes it is a risk v reward thingy that is unique to your car and your circumstances.
I have elected one way (no warranty) but it may not suit you

Used warranty direct previously and they were very good. Was tempted to take one out on the Spyder when I bought it but the £1600 put me off but on hindsight I would have been better off.

But this year you may find that evens out or you come out on top. I haven't had a warranty for 3 years and probably about quits IF the warranty would have covered wear and tear items as well, namely clutch as well timing gear and cam cover gaskets. Whilst a warranty would give me peace of mind I'd resent the outlay if nothing needed doing.

What I have learned is that if you leave these cars laid up they get the hump. Use 'em or lose 'em.

Agreed Adam, my warranty expires soon and I will not be looking to take out a new one and of course hope that the relative reliability of the GTS wins through!

Use it, use it, use it. Any car has its issues from time to time, and the bigger the engine the more time-consuming it is to fix them. We're lucky that we have such capable indies that we can call on, and in some case good local MDs as well. Overall these cars shouldn't be financial burdens. As everyone on here is pretty obsessive about keeping their car in excellent condition both from a mechanical and coachwork perspective we probably spend more than someone who gave less of a cr4p would spend.

Absolutely right Adam plus as mine has gone over 50k miles, it's only worth the shrapnel in my pocket anyway so what do I have to lose?!

Agreed, if I had renewed or extended the one I had it would have covers my clutch and I would be circa 1.2k better off after buying warranty.

Oh well looks like I'm going to have to use it frequently then! I've never been a fan of just leaving a car in the garage or drive, likewise I always look after them. I had an Alfa that was well looked after and never once let me done, despite all the daft comments my friends who drove Bmws. As I've always wanted a Maserati going back years, this is one of those purchases totally led by the heart, I just don't fancy the Mrs telling me off! Haha
