Hi,

I fancied taking my boys to an event in London on Sunday, ok I'm leaving it a little late...
4 tickets to euston, (earliest train 9:20 am, will get us there 3 hours after the event starts) £279!

I rekon 8 hours, (6 by train & tube) 450 miles, £120 petrol, we travel in style , don't have to get a cab or tube and can return when we want to.

Public transport here is a joke!

There, anger vented!

Don't forget that petrol is the small part of the cost - it's the depreciation and servicing/repairs that make Maserati ownership more painful. Which is why students use public transport, and us middle aged farts with a few quid use cars!

True, but what price do you put on your own time, getting to train station, hanging about, extra time on train for journey, changing for tube, walking, then repeating X 4 people.......

Live in Bristol, work in London - return ticket at peak times £145 which equates to roughly £37k pa. thank god I dont pay it and no wonder work pay for an apartment instead of me traveling each day.

For that I do a least get a seat towards london and some times one on the way back if im lucky!

Such a tiny country and so hard to get around if you don't have a car, all these green policies are a smoke screen for extra tax !

Last time I came back from euston, there were people sat on the floor, surely a H&S issue in the event of an emergency stop ?

Still, We Could go in my wife's car, £50 of petrol

On the flip side, I'm going to London next week on the train (120 miles each way), and it's £20 there First Class, £24 back First Class. Sometimes it works well, sometimes not...

Don't for get that getting to London by car needs to include an extra zillion hours to get to the centre and extra £2 zillion to park once there - my advice would be to go somewhere else :frusty5:

We went last weekend..Stayed in a hotel in Elstree.....train and tube then into London which was £25 for the 4 of us for a full day ticket for tube, bus and train....Easy and you don't have to go into the centre then by car.....
