Intimidation

If there's one thing that I hate, and it seems to be an increasing problem, it's the intimidation of other road users. This is especially annoying when people are being intimidated because they are sticking to the speed limit.

Today I was en route back from a country blast to Warminster. There are long stretches of 40mph and 50mph limits. A bloke in a Jaguar was quick to drive right up my jacksy. I then saw him, in my rearview, making hand gestures and showing his displeasure with me on cruise at 40mph. This really me off so I wound down my window and indicated to him the next few 40mph signs, which were everywhere, then gave him a sign of my displeasure. He didn't come near my cars backside or gesture again.

If people want to speed then crack on, just don't intimidate other road users in the process. Tut tut.

It's also happened to me in many rural village type 30mph zones. That's in the runabout too.

I'm all up for giving my cars a good spanking on country roads and in the mountains, but there's just no need in 30/40 zones.

If I see it happen in front of me I just feel angered to know that my sister or family members could have some tube intimidating them which could cause an accident or end up pushing them to drive faster resulting in a ticket or worse.

What happened to Phill H?

I generally slow down if someone is up my backside, pisses them off even more.

Yes,
I was saying to my son en route to Leeds today that people get right up behind you and try to overtake a Maserati almost at any cost
I am with lofty on this one
Afraid its one of the hazards of owning a desirable car

Interestingly when I was really young there was a time when I got sent on a speed awareness course because I got caught doing 33mph in a welsh village 30mph zone.

When came back from that I decided in my wisdom to drive everywhere at the set speed limit. It lasted about 2 weeks. It was horrific! It was so scary and was much more dangerous than driving slightly faster. Nutters were tailgating, over taking me on blind corners almost running me off the road. I quickly realised driving slightly faster was much safer!

Now when I am in my super low car and I have to go over speed humps I have to slow down and zigzag over them. Every time I have to do this - if it is a female driver behind me they will attempt to overtake me at any cost. Usually almost causing an accident.

People are soooo impatient.

I get this in both cars but so much more so in my Midget. I can keep up with traffic and move along well out of juctions etc but the bullying, yes BULLYING I receive is appalling.

I can be in a line of traffic and the car behind, with nowhere to go once past me, hassles and pushes me along, knowing there's nowhere fo me to hurry to.

I've said it before here, and on other forums, the standards of driving in this country are failing fast. I dread to think what it'll be like in 10 years time.

Its funny though, when I get the old 3200 Maser out in the summer no matter how slowly you drive around no one ever gives you any problems, weird that..
It's as if they know exactly what's going to happen if they do!

I am guilty of intimidation - but only when I'm in the third lane and the tw*t in front of me won't move across into the 2nd or even better, 1st lane. It staggers me that people seem to feel they have the right to sit in the 3rd lane 'just because'.

have to say I don't get anywhere near as much bother on the road with the maser than I did with the porsche....... what little bother I do get tends to be not from young grunters who think the only masers around are GTs so don't recognise what Marci is, no, it tends to be from men in middle age who are generally driving an audi or a beamer who know what a 32, 42 and GS look like but probably don't have a big enough pair to get one having settled for a eurobox................so to prove they made the right choice, they have to overtake - it is the law! :)

I guess my rule of thumb here is if you are on an open road and want to go faster you overtake, if you cannot then you wait patiently. I agree on a motorway, people sitting on an empty motorway on the outside lane, is annoying, I think the US system where you can overtake on any lane puts a stop to that, quite quickly. I thought we had a new rule about anti-social driving?

You should try it around my way. I live in a 20 mph zone and if I drive at an indicated 25 mph (I'm not saying I would, your Honour) everything passes me like I'm standing still. Often going into the bus lane to do so. London is sometimes like chariot racing.

Speaking of slower cars holding up others. My other half's cousin, in France, lost his licence for six months for speeding. His choice was cycle or use one of those silly two-stroke Noddy cars the French have which can be driven without a licence. One morning going to work in his Noddy car he had some tail-gating charlie up his chuff wanting to pass, blowing the horn. Jeff chuntered away at 30 kph, or whatever its top speed was. The car behind eventually managed a dodgy overtake in town but Jeff turned into a short cut he knew and popped out in front of the Monsieur irate once more. He took great pleasure put-putting away to his office.
