Doohickey insisted his windscreen was replaced by a main dealer not auto-glass and his insurance agreed, are you claiming now ?

How long does it usually take from making the claim to getting the go ahead for the work?

I had bmw's before maserati and had a few insurance claims. When it was a NON FAULT I used bristol and london as a claims handling agent. They were faultless, A equivalent car (infact upgrade 330d) within 3 hours, to my workplace, all details were completed by them and all costs recovered form 3rd party. for FAULT for which I had one claim - hit a deer at 50mph - I had a bmw assist car for 48 hours and then the garage let me a car whilst they were fixing mine.

For both accidents I asked them to use BMW workshop to keep my warranty and they obliged once they had researched it. It wasn't the garage they wanted to send me to or on their original list but they allowed it - not sure of the specifics. The work could not be warranted by the insurer, this was the only catch, but specialist cars bmw warranted all their work anyway so it wasn't a problem.

3 BMWs and 5 claims in 3 years :(:(:(:( !!!!

*awful spellings its late

A working day or so not long at all - as soon as the garage receive the confirmation from the insures that your insured and they will pay the bill they go for it.

Surely someone from the insurer has to inspect the car?

Most insurers now allow for you to choose use your own repairer - especially with a car like a Maserati requiring specialist knowledge. A couple of months ago I managed the repair of a mark 2 Ghibli for a friend. It took about 2 weeks to get the go ahead, as it took that long to work out the repair costs (parts availability now very poor for these given that they are 20 years old - for example, rear lights no longer available). It was a very low speed rear bump at traffic lights, but it still cost £12k to repair.

I think that's only in a write off. In my case as long as the quotes matches the pictures etc. It was all ok. Only time I had an assessor was in a write off.

Nah, they sent an assessor round to authorise the work on the GT. I suspect it depends on how the estimate compares to some figure they have in mind.

Spoke to the insurers (Matt called to tell me both wheels are buckled in the centre and can't be repaired) and insisted Giallo do the work. Admiral will request an estimate and only send someone round if they're not happy with the figures.

Going to be an expensive claim with it being a GS the wheels are known for being delicate but thats why we have insurance.
Accidents happen.
