The light seems to have gone out on the middle dial (fan control)

Is there a guide to remove the dial/panel to change the bulb?

Thanks in advance

Nick can you be more specific? Are you saying all of your night time cluster lights are out or only one of them? If you need to remove the cluster you'll need to remove the A pillar moldings and the top of the dash. Then you can access the screws for the top mount of the cluster. The bottom bolts holding the cluster in are access through the steering wheel opening.

Sorry, 3200
This is the dial I'm talking about - the ones either side are lit but this one is dark:

Im not sure if theres a bulb there or not. I know alot of the 4200 dash lights are circuit boards. Could be the same here.

hmmm, a little annoying but I suppose I'll live with it if there's no easy way to change...

I have removed that panel. There is a guide on here.

It is a sealed control unit and will be hard to change components individually Nick. I will dig out my old control panel and see if the bulbs can be removed etc....

It's not quite the same as my GS but it's similar and I'm fairly certain the heater control is the same. You need to work out how to remove the carbon panel and the heater control is attached to the back of it. On the GS there are two screws at the bottom of the panel and then 2 post clips at the top. When you get it off the heater control comes with it and you will see 3 bulb holders, one for each dial. By the way, remove the radio first! Good luck

Spot on, to remove you remove radio first, then unscrew two screws, then carefully with a flat head driver pop out the two brass retaining clips which are at the top of the console. You will hear a click as the pop out. Put a cloth over the screwdriver head so as not to mark the leather surround.

Once the console is loose you can unplug the plugs off the back of each control unit.

Just had a look at my old unit and the bulbs are very much soldered onto the Pcb as shown in the pics below. I cannot find a way of popping the bulbs out of the holder!

You are welcome to try the PCB on yours.

Wow, thank you! I may take you up on that offer, what was wrong with your old one?
I'll try to replace the bulbs on the one I take out and if successful I'll send it back to you so you still have a full unit

My control unit was flaky (no AC control) so I sourced one from a forum member and made a working one out of two.

Just to resurrect this thread, did anybody ever work out whether the bulbs behind the heater controls could actually be popped out and replaced? And if so, does anyone have the specs/links for buying replacement bulbs?

I have a blown lamp as well the right hand dial is dark!
I also have a selection of dash lamps from various cars in a spares box - the lamps seem to be glued or fixed into the plastic holder which on other cars is then fitted and secured by turning 90 degrees
