I guess when I'm travelling all over the country I'm not bothered about the road per se. I just want to get to wherever I'm going as quickly as possible.
I've always found the A1 to be the most frustrating in that respect.

If you get near to Skipton call in at Billy Bobs for a shake or burger. Lovely part of the World, shame you are missing the trough of Bowland and the Lakes, those are the best roads in the North without any argument.

Nah. We had bad drivers without the influence of immigrants. Amazing that they get the blame for that too.

Driving on the Autoroutes in France was a pleasure compared to the journey back on the UK road network. Even Italy was better and they are crazy.

I'm not saying we didn't have bad drivers but lane discipline is non existent now , you'd get the odd Muppet that though the middle lane was their domain but nothing like it is now , overtaking the long way round then pulling back into lane one used to wake them up but now they just plod on regardless 10 in a row at 60mph , overtake somebody doing 45 in a 60 and it's like they've spotted a murderer they saw on crimewatch , dashcam footage saved , flashing lights

Didn't read this all but the lion inn at Blakey ridge is nice for a visit and sits on the top of the moors. Popular road and stopping place for car magazine shoots.
Helmsley is nice for a visit. York amazing place definitely one to visit. Then Whitby also.

Made it home by 8.30pm. 807 miles in 24.5 hours and think I was driving for just under 12 hours today. Pretty much all the roads I'd chosen were good but the Snake Pass was too busy by the time I got there. Roads over the Moors were great in the GS - fast and flowing. A bit twister over the Dales - really liked the Buttertubs and I took the road all the way from Hawes to Ingleton, which was a great, long run. The Peak District was stunning. Here are some pics.

That Hawes to Ingleton road is fun. Driven that a few times since I've had the Ghibli. Always puts a smile on my face.

Looks like you had great weather and a great trip. Nice to see some miles being put on a Maserati ;)
